Hi all,
On 16 October 1969, Barry Gray recorded the title music for UFO at his home studio. This took place (according to his records) from 9:30 am to 2:30 pm, and 14 musicians were there. It would have been interesting to be a "fly on the wall" while our favorite TV theme tune was being recorded. In fact, if you were there, it would have sounded something like this: http://ufoseries.com/titleSession.mp3 The one that was used is "take 4". Marc |

Marc,
Excellent stuff. Where the hell do you get this from? Is that actually Barry Gray talking in the background? If I could only get hold of studio demos like that for John Barry's OHMSS soundtrack LL |

Hi,
Any information where in Blackburn, Barry Gray and Michael Billington came from ? Was the studio in Blackburn or at home location in London ? I have asked this before but never had a reply. I only live 8 miles from the town and could take some pictures for the web site if required. Throughout the 1960's, Barry Gray's home studio was in North London. In 1970, he moved to an island (Guernsey). Marc |

It's interesting how they tweak some of the various instrument lines each time thru hunting for the right sound. It's also amazing to me how machine-like consistent musicians can be when they play things over and over again, making their part sound exactly the same each time. Guess that's why they're pro's.... It's utterly amazing that things like this are still around! Does the person who provided this know who the session musicians were? I'm recalling reading in the archives that Rick Wakeman was one at some point, although I don't know for which show. I'm wondering if any other session musicians Barry used ended up being famous in their own right? Thanks to the donor and also to you Marc, I'm enjoying all this so much! Sarah |
