A&E UFO DVD Review on the DIGITAL CINEMA

Hi all,

Scott Bosco has posted his final review of A&E's UFO DVD set 1 at:

I've e-mailed Scott to ask about his stating that there are English
subtitles (which I think is a mistake based on the comments I've heard).

Seems like he has a chip on his shoulder concerning Gerry Anderson. Not
that Gerry is above such criticism, it's just that when I heard the
commentary on the Carlton disks I didn't get that impression from it. It
seemed to me Gerry had just read an issue of FAB from Fanderson before
doing the commentary. I did think it was a little lite in information but
not so full of self-admiration like the reveiw says.

Maybe I missed that! I need to hear it again. Identified isn't one of my
favorite episodes but for me first or pilot episode seldom are. (I didn't
like Breakaway that much either but I love the rest of Space 1999)

I'm no expert on DVD commentaries but I did love the set-up on the Star
Trek TMP directors cut DVD. The whole movie was so much better than before
and Robert Wise was terrific.

Any thoughts on the GA commentary? I know we discussed this a little when
the Carlton DVD's first came out. Do other people feel the way Scott does?

Just got my set....I must say that the packaging is HORRID! It's more than
horrid, but I don't know what that word is!

YIKES! It's almost like it's unfinished -- stillborn in the design process.
You want to wash your hands after touching it.

I must say that the full color images on the discs themselves are superb!
Kudos to A&E for that design (I think similar or same as Carlton's DVDs)...but
that packaging........UGH. To read the material behind the cover, you need to
pull out the sheet -- so it looks like one or two times that you pull that out
and it's gonna get all crinkly.

I will plop down to watch some of the DVD special features and then an epiosde
later.

Just had to send in those first thoughts though!

Hey, I got mine too, and my first thought was that the
packaging wasn't as bad as I thought it would be! The
cover is printed on a heavier grade of paper than I
would have expected. And it looks like A&E did indeed
look at my website (as I suggested) for photos, as some
of the photos on the back & inside look like photos
on my website (some of which are pretty rare and not
usually seen elsewhere). But I don't think it's
as bad as Anthony sez... (just my opinion)

I haven't looked at the discs yet... had to go to work... :-/

I actually thought Gerry did a good job on the IDENTIFIED commentary.
I have historically been annoyed by Gerry's taking credit for everything
in his shows, and I do agree with Scott that some of that comes through
in this commentary (for example, when he says that the purple wigs
were his idea!), I don't really think it's too big of a deal, and
certainly not worth making THAT much fuss about!
