Hi all,
I'm sure many of the Gerry Anderson fans here know that A&E is releasing "Stingray" this month in the USA: http://store.aetv.com/html/culttv/vp01.jhtml?id=70502 What I find amazing is that these A&E titles are still benefiting from my introducing them to Jeff Smart. First, Jeff records the 2 new commentary tracks for UFO Set 2. Then he records 2 more commentary tracks for the Space:1999 bonus disc. Now he's recorded 2 more commentary tracks for Stingray, featuring Sylvia Anderson, John Read, Mary Turner, Brian Johnson, and Bob Bell... PLUS a 20 minute "Making Of" feature! I previously bought the UK Stingray DVD's, but with all these new features I guess I'm going to have order the USA versions as well! (which I suspect is what A&E was hoping in the first place) And with all this stuff Jeff's doing for A&E, I guess we can't complain too much about the long delays for his "The Future Was Fantastic" video, which he assures me *will* be coming out sometime in our lifetime... :-) Marc |

Hi all,
I recall that when UFO DVD Set 1 was released, A&E advertised that you could get it a month before retail availability if you ordered it from their website. Well, as we all know, it got delayed a week, so it was really only 3 weeks before retail availability (oh, and also DeepDiscountDVD shipped it 3 weeks before retail availability as well!) I've been monitoring the A&E Stingray DVD release dates. Originally A&E was supposed to ship on December 3rd, and the retail date was December 31st. Now A&E's date has been delayed to December 23rd -- only one week before retail! Since A&E is supposed to ship UFO DVD Set 2 on December 31st (retail on January 28th), I wonder how delayed *that's* going to end up? Marc |
A very good question. I've always ordered the A&E titles through Deep Discount because of their prices (about 45% off retail), and am patiently awaiting the STINGRAY set. Another question about the sets. After both UFO and CAPTAIN SCARLET came out the way they were packaged, they apparently have gone back to the standard "box set" packaging for STINGRAY. What's up with that? By the way, is UFO set 2 up for preorder yet with Deep Discount? I've been checking every so often and it still hasn't surfaced yet. Brian:
I'm pretty sure the reason for the older style packaging for Stingray (individual Amrays) is that the Stingray set is 5 discs and UFO is 4 -- seems the package that they used for UFO, Captain Scarlet, etc. can only hold 4 discs. Just a guess based on observation. Of course, it assumes that the illustrations we are seeing for Stingray are accurate. :) Anthony ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian Lindstrand" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Friday, December 20, 2002 9:15 AM Subject: Re: [SHADO] "A Month Before Retail Availability"... > > A very good question.
