Have any of the Japanese Gerry Anderson DVD sets used the newer,
digitally remastered transfers that Carlton has been producing in
the last few years? My fear is that the Japanese UFO DVDs will
use the old 1992 transfers, which looked good for their time,
but certainly can't compare to the new transfers!

The 19.99 pounds does include VAT. I just went through the motions
of ordering one of the UFO sets (not going to the final step), and
it listed my price to USA as being 17.01 pounds + 3.08 pounds shipping,
for a grand total of 20.09 pounds.

I occasionally see complaints from folks in Australia that the UK
DVD's are too expensive for them to purchase. I wonder if that's
still the case with them being only 20 pounds each?

Based on my experience of re-issued CD's, the Japanese will be almost
certainly [more than likely contractually be obliged to] use the
Carlton remasters - on odd occasions they have done there own
remaster. But, only time will tell. I have looked on the Japan CD site
and based on the other GA boxed sets they have in stock and assuming
that the UFO set will be split into two sets of 4 discs. The pro-rata
cost is going to be in the order of $164 per set, which is still
mighty expenisve. Now, there is no saying 'that' logic can be applied.

In the past few years, both Space:1999 and Thunderbirds have
been released on DVD. Now, I never purchased these DVDs, but
I had heard from folks who did purchase them that they did NOT
use the remastered versions which were used by Carlton and A&E.

As I said time will tell. But, if they are not it is very expensive
way of getting a below par product - including those from Japan! If
this was to be the case, knowing the Japanese use region 2 encoded
DVD's [allbeit on the NTSC format] it would cheaper for the Japanese
folk to to go for the [MVC and Amazon] discounted Carlton sets on that
basis, they would be assured of getting a good standard of picture
quality.

Does anyone know what the picture quality of the Jap Captain Scarlet
disc were like??

Thanks, Marc.

Sounds quite odd. I think they made the right decision not to use
it, personally lol.
