I Just posted an message about the Ashyea movie Containing stills, i have
just realised that our group strips the pictures out. Can i ask why? it would make it easier to share bits of the series if it didn't. Thanks TMN [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Generally if someone has put an attachment into an email, that means it could be a BIG email. And there are 500+ people on this list, many of whom don't want to have big emails coming into their mailbox. Also, I believe that Yahoo Groups no longer archives attachments, so even if I allowed attachments, they wouldn't be saved in the archives, and people who read SHADO via the web wouldn't see them. So instead of e-mail attachments, you need to upload files somewhere and let us know where it is. For example, the SHADO "files" area is available to anyone here for uploading, and there's lot of free or cheap web space available. Speaking of the web, it seems that the amount of development on UFO fan websites is much lower than it was 5 years ago (when several people were developing UFO related sites). I wonder what happened -- I mean, today UFO is available on DVD, there is merchandise being released, and SHADO has more subscribers than ever before. Yet the amount of UFO fan websites seems to actually be decreasing - for example, whatever happened to Angelo Finamore's great UFO collection site? Marc |

Oh Marc Just to say that the pictures I sent were not attachments but pasted
directly into email. I know this striping of pictures must set by moderator for other groups I belong to are able to send pictures in email to the group. TMN [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
We don't care. No one wants the pictures sent unsolicited, so upload
them to files area. [hidden email] wrote: > Oh Marc Just to say that the pictures I sent were not attachments but pasted > directly into email. Yes, but did you know that the people who are in digest mode don't receive those pictures? And those pictures are no longer accessible via the Yahoo Groups message archive? So you're really not sending pictures which are viewable by everyone who reads the mailing list -- just those who have their settings at "receive individual emails". But that's not why I have attachments disabled here. It's a simple matter that I don't want people sending huge file attachments out to hundreds of people who don't want their inbox clogged up. As someone who runs a website, I've had several occasions when somebody sends me files I never asked for, didn't want, and were huge (one was 14 megabytes, and was about Roswell aliens!). Before I had a high speed connection, this was really annoying. And a lot of people here still don't have high speed connections. Marc |

You can upload photos to the group area so people can choose whether to spare them the modem time or not. |

Hi all,
While pondering my policy towards list attachments, I just noticed that SHADO just had an anniversary -- we are now 9 years old! Of course, Yahoo Groups hasn't been around for 9 years, but this list was once on a different server and called "FAB-UFO". I started this list way back on August 27, 1994. "Ancient history" in Internet terms. I never had any idea that we'd still be here discussing the show 9 years later! I just thought (at the time) that it was a shame that there was virtually nothing about UFO on the Internet. My, how times have changed... :-) Marc |
Hi Marc, Happy Anniversary. Only found SHADO site 21/2 years ago. Have
been a UFO fan since first saw show in the Early 70's. Enjoy site and wish for many more years to come. Thanks you, Elaine [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

More importantly, this helps prevent (if not outright eliminate) email borne
virus' from being sent to members. I think you're to blame Marc! :)
People have only so much time to surf the Web -- and only so much time/interest in maintaining a Web site. If the Web site owner finds that his site isn't being visited enough to warrant updating, then eventually it's taken down. I think the popular ones survive (like yours) and the less popular go by the wayside. I think it tends to happen all throughout various fandoms. Another possibility is that groups of fans tend to do things at the same time (perhaps inspired by other sites, etc) and that same energy dissipates as time moves on. Well, your group gets what it deserves: a long time running :-) > I just thought (at the time) that it > was a shame that there was virtually > nothing about UFO on the Internet. > My, how times have changed... :-) And I didn't believe to find something on the internet when I searched for UFO in 1997 but the first thing I found was your website, Marc. And neither did I believe that I would be able to make a contribution to you and your group(s). Gave me a lot of enjoyment and pleasure in all these years! It's great that you *took* your time to build up this *fab* homepage and start the FAB-UFO group against all odds (e.g. the wishes of your wife ;-)! A big thanks for all this, Marc! (and best wishes to your wife :-) Christian |

Marc, I wrote to Angelo in February and he replied: my web sites UFO Merchandise Collection and THE ART OF UFO aren't online now to the moment I don't know if in future it came back on line my new web site is for the my painting: http://www.angelofinamore.com but it is OT about UFO... So maybe he changed his priorities for some time. But I'm sure one day he'll come back :-) Christian |

Hi Christian
I had a Look at your gallery, I like the stlye of the pictures, they remind of the art that the alien in The ALIEN films was based on. I really cant remeber that artists name; but I think you would like his work, Any way cool stuff. TMN [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Giger (which did the Alien design). Christian |

Hi Marc and all the SHADO list :)
Well done, Happy 9th Anniversary (Wow! that's a long time in web years!) that's when I first got involved in web sites... though I had been using the internet since 1990. Here's to another 9 and many years.... how many years is that in UFO years? That's the trouble with a futuristic series made in the sixties/seventies, based in the eighties, and appreciated well into the noughties... and it still seems fairly futuristic! Best, Griff BTW... did you know that the internet (Arpanet) first came into being in 1969. Was first tested while man was on the Moon... about the same time that UFO was first in production :) |

I , for one, am danged glad you did form the site, as it started my
chain that eventually led me to be able to feed my long lost starvation for UFO episodes, it got me my tapes, and everything. Before I found the site, I could find no other references to UFO anywhere in the world basically.... Now I know I'm not alone and a freak.... So thanks, Marc! |
