>The problem with this is, Marc, that it will make people wonder what 'slash
>fiction' is - I had definitely never heard of it until I was part of this >mailing list, and I haven't encountered the word in that context elsewhere >either. I did a quick search on the word SLASH on YAHOO and this was the result The first catagory on just typing the word slash came up with News and Media > Television > Fan Fiction Slash Clicking the word slash brought up all the various web sites devoted to slash and I'm sure the definition of Slash is contained on them, probably just to warn off minors and parents helping their kids surf. On to UFO 1999. I actually was able to see the tape of UFO 1999 and it is a fannish parody of both UFO and Space 1999. Because the tape has been seen by so few people it's becoming more sought after than it really should be. The puns and jokes are okay, the model work I really enjoyed because it looked like it was a lot of work there but the plot moves a little slow and the truly funny moments are separated by a few dull moments. But as a fan work its great! But I have a feeling there will be some disapointment once it finally comes out. The best part for me was the guy who does Alec Freeman as Austin Powers. He takes those scenes with Col Lake and its just hilarious. Also is the guy who plays koenig looking in the microscope in Helena's office and the use of the Derek Wadsworth music there (Space 1999 season 2 music) When it comes out you'll all probably want to see it but I don't think it will live up to the hype. But the fellows who made the video, Kyle and the rest of them have really put a lot of work into it and it is a cool and funny fan parody. Improve the pacing and it will be even better. They may have done this with their sequel but there was a big snafu at the MM 2000 convention with the tape being lost or whatever. I'm looking into the amatuer film contest at my local SF convention ICON http://www.iconsf.org/ and i think I'm going to write to Kyle and some of the other parody Space 1999 film project producers I saw at Main Mission 2000 (There was a terrific one called, When Gerry Met Freddie!) and see if I can get them shown at ICON even if the makers can't get to Long Island. When Marc posted MOV files of UFO 1999 last year he posted probably some of the best and funniest scenes from the video. I felt, once I saw the whole thing from the beginning, I had seen the best already on the internet thanks to Marc! >(BTW, I totally agree with the addition to the rules! As I'm sure the >majority of people on this list do.) >CU >Lieve I agree too, I think Marc has always been listowner of FAB UFO and AFAIK he's always had a level head and while he might have to make an unpopular decision he's always been fair. |
