I like that idea - I had a similar idea for a UFO story myself,
where a weapon is recovered from a UFO which has unpredictable
consequences when it's tested (attached to an interceptor). I
actually got the idea from a HiFi catalogue, funny as it
sounds (there's a joky remark that a CD player uses technology
stolen from a UFO at Roswell).
But would a human pilot be able to fl without being trained to
do so? I think not. Shades of 'Independence Day' ..
