Anderson but not UFO

Hey gang,

Just a quick note here to tell you that I saw a website
listed in my local newspaper Sunday relating to a
Gerry Anderson site of the Tunderbirds. This is the
first time I've ever seen an Anderson site listed in the
newspaper. Although this is not UFO , I thought some
of you might still be interested in it.

The ad says this is a * new * series premiering in the
UK next month? Not sure what they mean by that since
T-Birds has been around for a long time now?? Are
they doing a remake of the series like they are with Capt.
Scarlet ??

Its also interactive. You can supposedly design a T-Bird 6
craft and enter a design contest with it. Sorry to get a bit
of topic here...

Wow... coverage of a Gerry Anderson series in an American newspaper?
It's a miracle! :-)

The Thunderbirds *are* about to be re-launched in the UK next month,
but this is the same old series from the 1960's. Or rather, it's
the same old series, but the video has been digitally remastered
from 35mm prints, and the audio has been "enhanced" with
artificial stereo. <yuk!>

I only hope that when Carlton/A&E gets around to releasing UFO on
DVD in the UK, they decide not to bother with the artificial
stereo... or at least provide an alternate audio track with
the original mono soundtrack...

Yes, but probably, the first time for two UFO web sites listed on an
newspaper was in date 13 July 2000 when Marco Raffa (ISOSHADO) signed an
article on the premiere of UFO on TMC2 and listed the URL of ISOSHADO Web
Site and URL of Marc's UFO Series Home Page.

Thanks for that bit of information Angelo. I hope Carlton
is planning a big promotion campaign for the new DVD
releases. There really isn't much in the entertainment
news media about these shows anymore. Especially
here in the US.

Wouldn't Quadraphonic sound be more appropriate for the 70's ?

Better use of space would be a mono and a commentary track. The cast
and crew probably have some good stories to tell.

Deesn't sound like Carlton contacted either you or Fanderson about
supplying some goodies for the extras menu. Too bad as this wouldn't
add that much to their production costs.

Other possiblities would be the original ITC trailers which I assume
still exist.

Don't understand what you mean Keith! Why would we want something
appropriate for the '70s?

Confused of Canary Wharf

While UFO is actually on the cusp (69-70), I remember it as early
70's (probably because it didn't play here in the US till 72).
But even then, it still seemed contemporary. While many things about
UFO are 60's, it's not all 60's.

The Quadraphonic craze began back to the early 70's. By the time UFO
was on TV, you could buy Quad LPs and 8-tracks.

Just a nostalgic stretch.

I also figure that amongst all those great gadgets, Straker's car must
have had an 8-track player (they go back to the mid 60's). A nice ride
like that had to have the tunes to go with it.

Maybe we'll see a Barry Gray's greatest hits 8-track pop up on eBay.

But - away from the blatant ad - I think they would definitely have been
into quadraphonic - and Strakers car would have definitely have had 'at
least' true 4 speaker seperation!

As for in the home and office - well maybe things would have developed as
they really are.

Many of the old quadraphonic technologies of the 70's have fed into our
modern home system - the Sony SQ surround technology for example -
contributes to the Surround Sound many of us enjoy whenn watching our
favourite videos (UFO!!:) through top of the range home entertainment systems.

Now - my contribution to the enjoyment of UFO watchers:

A video/DVD doesn't have to be true quadraphonic - our ears can be
tricked by using an in an out of phase effect - and an old 70's SQ or QS
decoder will do this for you. - all you need is a TV with stereo out - 4
speakers a decoder 2 amps (nearly any will do) and 4 speakers!

If anyone is interested - email me off list as i don't want to veer off
topic - I can have you listening and watching to your UFO videos in
surround sound - and wiring the system up is *very* easy. Free advice from me!

The bonus - if you can't afford one of those high end systems - don't
worry - it can be done with 70's technology for about GBP100 or less
now!! (US $ 150) and most of the stuff you can get at car boot sales!

Hope to have got at least someone intrigued!:)
