Antonia Interview

Hi all,

By the way, one of the things I concerned myself prior to interviewing
Antonia was to make sure that I only asked questions that I thought
she might know the answer to. I did a fairly good job on this, although
I stumped her when I brought up the original Italian actor who was
supposed to play the Moonbase commander and fired during the first
weeks shooting (she didn't seem to remember that).

She also didn't remember being told why they were wearing purple
wigs on the show, but OF COURSE I had to ask that -- she was asked
that several times by people coming up for autographs at the booth,
too. Also at the booth we asked if Gabrielle Drake's character
"Lt Ellis" name was taken from her own, but again she had no
specific recollection of this -- she simply thought that Ellis
was a common name.

The audience asked some questions that Antonia didn't know the
answer to, like whether UFO and SPACE:1999 were in the same universe,
why General Henderson looked so unhealthy in MINDBENDER, and why
did the Moonbase commander kept changing so often. I knew the
answers to these, but of course Antonia didn't...

I'm not sure what the audience's favorite story was during
the interview -- I liked her story about how her husband
found out she did that scene in Percy while changing TV
channels and stopping for an interesting striptease scene
(only to suddenly realize that this was his wife!), and
also how she and Ed Bishop would love eating the studio
ice cream and chocolate syrup...

But it sounds like Shawn got a good video copy of the interview,
other than the parts where you can't hear me asking the
questions (and I suppose I could dub over these parts), so
hopefully we'll have a DVD-R out within the month for people
to see it if they want it. Although I haven't seen the video,
I suspect it was an "above average" question & answer session,
and probably of interest to a UFO fan. I think I'll ask for donations
for the cost of the materials and postage (which can be done
via PayPal), and the DVD itself will be NTSC (American video)
format, and region-free. People using the PAL format (Europe,
Australia, etc.) will either need a multistandard DVD player
or a DVD player on their computer to view it.

Also, I should be able to upload an MP3 file of the audio
portion of the interview for folks who don't want the DVD...

Hi,
On a (sort of) unrelated note, I was just watching an episode of the final series of "Sex And The City" and in the lead credits was listed "Producer - Antonia Ellis". Same one?
I normally wouldn't have taken much notice, but with this thread running hot, I had to rewind it a couple of times to make double sure (it is one of the shows I record whilst I'm at work - love it!)
Cheers
Tania.

No, that's a different person. I was planning on asking this question
as part of my interview, but we ran out of time. I was going to tell
her that Sylvia Anderson (who works at HBO in the UK) also saw
Antonia's name at the end of those credits, and phoned her, thinking
it was the same person as from UFO. But it wasn't...

In fact, I never got around to telling Antonia that story at all! :-(

Interesting - funny how I had never noticed the name before until this thread became so active. It's not exactly a common name, so how unusual to have 2 involved in TV.
Thanks
Tania
