Any hardcore UFO fans near Atlanta?

Marc Martin

Hi all,

Last week someone tried to mail me some very rare UFO transparencies (2 1/4") and 35mm slides.  However, this person did not tape the box properly, and the contents were lost in the mail (the empty box made it, however).  I doubt these items will ever turn up, but I do know that the post office holds monthly auctions in Atlanta for lost/unclaimed mail items.  So if anyone is interested, you might want to check out the October 13th and November 18th auctions, at least for the 8:30 am - 10 am inspection of merchandise.  You might get a bargain!  (there was also other rare Gerry Anderson merchandise in that box -- if you are thinking of doing this, I can send you a list.

Actually, now that I've reviewed the post office policies more closely,
I see that they hold all lost items for 90 days, so there's no way to
know when they'd be auctioned off (or if someone has already
thrown away these slides/transparencies, thinking they are worthless)

This box contained 32 transparencies (2.25") and many 35mm slides.
Here is an example that will make you want to cry:

Hi Marc,

Ouch! What a loss... I know how I feel just reading this, so I can nearly imagine how you must feel.

Did the person who sent them to you understand the importance of these item?

I'm sure they knew these were irreplaceable, but obviously did not care
enough to package them properly.  :-(

I'll fill out the official post office form for them to do a "lost mail"
search, so there will at least be a *slight* chance that they might be
recovered.

I am already weeping at the loss of this primary source and non replaceable item. What was the person thinking? I would have done my utmost to send them in one piece; it is a shame and loss at same time.
