Article on UFO/Joe 90/Protectors

Here is an article from DVD Review (thanks to James Milne for
sending it to me):

What with Space:1999 (1975), Stingray (1962) and September's release
of Captain Scarlet And The Mysterons (1967), this year has been a
pretty rewarding one for cult-TV fans and the good news is that it
looks set to continue throughout 2002!

We've just spoken to a reliable source at Carlton who has given us a
first look at their preliminary schedule for next year. Alongside the
ongoing releases of Danger Man, The Saint, Randall & Hopkirk
(Deceased), The Champions and The Persuaders! we can also look
forward to UFO (1969-70), Joe 90 (1968) and The Protectors (1972-3).

UFO is tentatively planned as a two stage release in March and June.
It will use the two DVD boxset format used by A&E in the States for
their Space: 1999 releases. In September, Joe 90 will make his DVD
debut with the series available either individually or as a complete
boxset. Rounding things out is Season One of the 25-minute
action-adventure show The Protectors - with the first 26-episodes
planned for release in April, July and October.

Please bear in mind that these months are not set in stone, they will
almost certainly change and we wouldn't be at all surprised if the
two stage release of UFO is dropped as it sounds very odd to us.
We're sure most fans would rather UFO's 26-episodes were presented in
one standalone boxset. Anyway, as soon as we know more we'll let you
know.

Incidentally, Carlton Video recently awarded the contract to remaster
these series to BBC Resources. The first results of their work can be
seen in the current set of ITC releases - specifically Volumes 3 of
The Persuaders!, Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased), The Champions, The
Saint and Danger Man. Whatever you may think of the series, the image
quality is pretty staggering and a huge improvement over the earlier
DVD releases. Not to cast stones at the earlier discs or anything but
the work put in by the guys at BBC Resources just shows what can be
achieved if you really care about the product.

If you're interested in finding out more there are several
fascinating articles on the excellent Persuaders! website The Morning
After. They can be found using the links opposite.
