BATMAN

Bill Adkins
I just finished watching the videotape of Tim Burton's BATMAN from 1989 and
as i was watching the credits I noticed that Derek Meddings did the special
effects. i was not aware that he was involved in the film.

I wonder if it was filmed at Harlington-Straker Studios.

Yes, Derek Meddings also did the effects for the SUPERMAN and JAMES
BOND movies. Personally, I found his work on UFO more convincing
than some of these other big-budget films... although the space
effects in MOONRAKER were quite good...

The effects from MOONRAKER come off as even more impressive when you realize
that he didn't have access to a STAR WARS-style computer-controlled camera
and an optical printer.

I've also always been impressed by his work on DOPPELGANGER/JOURNEY TO THE
FAR SIDE OF THE SUN.
