Best DVD player to watch R2 UFO DVDs in USA?

Hi all,

I've been doing some research on the "videophile" forums
concerning which DVD player does the best job of converting
a PAL signal into NTSC, which would be of interest to anyone
in the USA thinking of buying a DVD player to watch the
upcoming UK UFO DVDs. It appears that there is only one player
which does the PAL-to-NTSC perfectly -- the Malata N996.
This unfortunately is also one of the more expensive
players (~$300), and also does not come with Macrovision
disabled. However, the cheaper players (like the old
Apex & Raite, and the current Sampo & Malata 900R)
use a different chip which simply throws out every 4th
line, which can make the picture look a bit strange at
times. The Malata N996 uses a special chip which does
a much better job (and also correctly converts widescreen
UK movies, which the others do not). At least, that's
what the video snobs claim...

So, I don't know if this is of any interest to anyone,
but that's the results of my research! For now, I'll
stick with my old Apex player, and wait & see what
the USA UFO DVD's look like when they come out. And
one of these days, I'll break down and buy a multi-standard
TV set, so I won't have to worry about such things! :-)

The Daewoo DVG-5000N does PAL to NCTS conversion very
nicely. There's even a little button on the remote to
switch from PAL/NCTS once you've changed regions.
