Doesn't Ed give his regards to a Colonel Blake? At least in the
German dubbing I've heard this. Have to watch the English version.
And at least their is a Colonel Blake in M*A*S*H. Also the movie was
made at the same time. Maybe you're right, James, and it IS an inside
joke?

I wouldn't say that it is necessary for the Aliens to use an
intelligence brain for their purposes. Maybe they used the cat
because humans are always looking so stunned when they were possessed
by them (take a look at the three humans in THE PSYCHOBOMBS e.g. :-)
And maybe they know about the female SHADO operatives who adore this
kind of animals, so they would rather forget about security? ;-) But
I think it was only that the writers found a cat a sinister being.
