WHAT EVER HAPPEN TO THE CHARACTER COL. ALEX FREEMAN PLAYED BY GEORGE SEWELL? HE JUST DISAPPEARED FROM THE SERIES WITHOUT EXPLANATION. OR MAYBE HE WAS ABDUCTED BY ALIENS - LOL. WAS THERE A CONTRACT DISPUTE OR WAS HE JUST TRIED PLAYING THE PART? |
there was a delay in shooting due to change in studios through the run, the
character who played it decided not to return once shooting restarted Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: "larrydee19150" <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Saturday, August 21, 2004 6:04 PM Subject: [SHADO] COL. According to Sylvia Anderson (on the DVD commentary to
"Timelash" she made with Wanda Ventham), George Sewell was dropped from the series because he was judged to be "too old," and, consequently, didn't appeal to the demographic to which the producers were appealing. I should add that Sylvia expressed sadness at the decision while Wanda maintained a diplomatic silence. JD ===== Jacques Deleuze Au pays des aveugles les borgnes sont rois. That's interesting; I'd read somewhere that he'd left due to commitments for Special Branch, (in which he had a more prominent role of course). But I guess that might have been a tactful cover story, assuming that commitments for the two different programmes didn't in fact conflict. |
Hi All
That's a coincidence, I just received the complete Special Branch DVD set, and it was a great series. A little dated now of course, but good story lines and quite daring for its day. I do also remember that at Uforia 2 in London in the late 80's, George Sewell stated that he had only ever signed up for the initial episodes (I think the first 10), and that other commitments (i.e. Special Branch) stopped him being part of UFO for the subsequent episodes and even missed some of the first set. It's all on tape somewhere... Best, Griff ps. I do also remember someone asking about the scene in Exposed where 2 thugs beat up Paul Foster, and it was stated that Ed Bishop was one of the pair (in disguise!) Checking the DVD, it certainly could be, although I suppose it's possible it doesn't seem likely. Also, the 'thug' in question looks very similar to an actor at the beginning of 'The Responsibility Seat', I think the director, or one of the acting assassins... ...comments? -----Original Message----- That's interesting; I'd read somewhere that he'd left due to commitments for Special Branch, (in which he had a more prominent role of course). George Sewell starred in various series/films between UFO and Special Branch
- including Get Carter, The Edwardians and Paul Temple. You might be interested to know that he's touring in a play this autum called The Gentle Hook. >From: "Griff" <[hidden email]> >Reply-To: [hidden email] >To: <[hidden email]> >Subject: [SHADO] Re: Col.
