Hi all you groovy shadoites out there.
Having sobered up now, I thought it would be appropriate to give a personal account of the con for those of you who maybe interested. Well what can I say - absolutely fab time, not only from the perspective of being able to meet and converse with the great and good i.e Ed, Peter, Gabrielle :-)))) and Gerry, but also because I had the opportunity to meet some very pleasant and interesting fans most of whom belong to this partcular e group. Lets start at the beginning - Friday - well nothing was scheduled to be going on so things did'nt really start to swing until later in the evening where loads of people gravitated towards the bar area and promptly got plastered - well some did - on saturday morning my head told me that I must have been one of them!! Saturday - well this is where the con really swung into some good action. First recollection was meeting Marc himself - very pleasant guy, struck me as quiet, unassuming and cerebral in his disposition. Having talked about the group, his flight, vegetarianism (his and my wife are both veggies!!)his job, we moved onto the Shado egroup meeting. I think there were about 6 or 7 people there and I managed to chat at length to Lesley and Katie mainly about convention organising - very pleasant switched on ladies indeed!!I thought it was great to have the group photo taken against the background of Strakers office - I tried desperately to stand next to the drinks section but the people taken the photos said if I stood there they would not be able to get all of us in the picture especially my ears:-)) The afternoon was great because this is where Gerry did his and Ed and Gabrielle did there combined guest talks - I'm sorry ladies for mentioning this, but Gabrielle looks absolutely superb. She is such an attractive lady and I agree with Marc that recent pictures and interviews do not do her justice. The autograph session - well Marc told you the queue was long - I was in it and he was not kidding!! Anyway , it was well worth it - When I got to Peter Gordeno we managed to share a bit of joke which Gabrielle joined in. Peter is like myself as bald as a bowling ball so I said to him "hi peter great hair style" , he responded with the comment "yeah right, us Kojaks have got to stick together" so Gabrielle turned to us both and said "why don't you both get a purple whig I used to wear" . "Not my bag baby" (in true Austin Powers style) I replied whereupon we all burst out laughing. It probably does'nt sound very funny put in this textual form, but it did generate a lot of laughs from the people around at the time. The signed picture of Gabrielle is now hanging in a very prominent place in my house!! The evening disco was great - I have been going to cons now for over 17 years and I have never attended a better one. The DJ's actually played 60's and 70's music all the way through and did not lapse into playing any rap, house or dance crap:-))The majority people who attended actually did dress up in 60's and 70's gear which, for a 60's nut like myself, was absolutely great - Sarah Stokes - you looked fab baby!!. When the photo's are developed, I'll put some of them on the egroup site - should be entertaining!! Sunday - oh Sunday!! Another day, another hangover. Well, it was great to see Peter and Ed together doing a commentary on the ep "Identified" Peter was especially witty and Ed has a great memory with regards to the careers of his fellow actors and actresses who appeared in this ep Overall a very good weekend with supberb guests. Any down sides? Just one really and that was not getting the chance to properly introduce ourselves to Ed. As you may know, my wife and I are involved in organising a con called Eclectic 21 in Leicester in May next year and Ed is a confirmed guest.Being polite sorts of people, my wife and I thought it appropriate that we should introduce ourselves to Ed so he could at least put a name to a face. Unfortunatley, and please ladies do not have a go at me because this was probably MY fault, when we mentioned our names he went a complete blank. He did not seem to register either our personal names or the convention name. Either he did'nt here what we said which is possible since we did approach him in the disco, or because he attends so many cons, he simply could'nt remember ours. That was personally a disappointing moment but I'm sure that as long as we keep in regular contact with Ed and tell him what is going on with our con, he will remember in future. Anyway, he is still a great guy - very charming and I was delighted to here he spent some time with Marc - he deserves the recognition. Great con!!
