Mark,

go here - http://www.dvddemystified.com/dvdfaq.html

Answers to all your questions, and more. See item 1.19 in
particular. Although actually it states:

"Because the quality of conversion in DVD players is poor, using
60-Hz PAL output with a compatible TV provides a better picture"

- whereas I've actually found NTSC -> PAL conversion (in a
relatively inexpensive Toshiba player) to be very good. Maybe
it doesn't work so well thje other way round.

Another point - I've read (here I think) that the NTSC Anderson
DVDs released thus far in particular are of inferior picture
quality compared to the PAL versions, and less interesting
extra features.

James,
I appreciate the HELP.

But i was REALLY looking for someone WHO fits the
SAME profile as Me i.e.- Using a DVD player to play PAL
DVD's on a NORMAL U.S. TV.

Thanks,
Mark

Sorry, I only have an abnormal UK TV .. :)

I believe there are one or two listers who have PAL->NTSC-capable
DVD players, so hopefully someone will give you a first hand
opinion.

I have an earlier model, the Raite 715, which I obtained from the same source.

These do work as advertised. I can play any DVD from anywhere and see it on
my standard US NTSC TV.

The quality and tactile feel of the units is not up to that of the Sony's
of the world, but it's got the goods where it counts.

Hi Simon, If I could only find a VCR that would enable me to play Pal
on it in USA. I'm also from New Jersey. UFO fan from way, way back.

Aiwa makes one. I'm not sure what the current model number is; last time I
looked, it was HV-MX100. I bought one several years ago, and although it
cost more than a standard NTSC VCR, it has been well worth it. (Three of
the shows in my frame capture library website are being captured from PAL
tapes, so I definitely use the multi-format features.) It's a full digital
converter system, which can read read both NTSC and PAL tapes and output
the signal in either format, converting as needed. So, you could play a PAL
tape and have the signal output as NTSC for your standard USAn television.

Depending on where you are, you may not be able to find one of these in
stock -- most of the stores which sell VCRs have never even heard of such a
thing -- but if they carry Aiwa equipment, they should be able to order one
for you.
