Hello all,
I have received "THE Complete book of Gerry Anderson's UFO" today. As much
happiness it brought, it also brought disappointment. Black and white
content is poorly printed, majority of photos lacks contrast, and some of
them even has clogging which put a lot of Mr. Benchley's effort to waste. I
am glad that he gave up on the embossed logo for the book, I think that
Microgramma bold extended (or Eurostile) looks much bolder in it's original
style (although I experimented with 3D too for our soundtrack CD a long time
ago).
I haven't read the book yet, but I can see that there is material in it I
think even Marc hears about it for the first time (is this too brave a
presumption?). Also, more than 50 pages of the book is the episode guide,
majority of which will be familliar to the owners of Mr Benchley's "The
Complete Gerry Anderson", published by the same publisher(although it is
significantly boostd with new material). That leaves us with more than 120
pages of new stuff, which is great!
Pitty that "Reynolds and Hearn" weren't brave enough to print the book in
color, or that Carlton Publishing didn't find enough interest to publish it
as they did for "Thunderbirds" and "Captain Scarlet...". That way it would
be the deffinitive "UFO" book. Now we still have to wait for that. I guess
we have to be gratefull for this. Book seems like a lot of effort and love
has been put in it, not to mention a lot of knowledge and research. Even if
some dates do not concur with reality, I think it is not important at all
and it is nitpicking, although some purists will not agree. For a series
made so long ago, it is understandable that everything can't be accurate
100%. Thanks again to all involved, with the exception to the person who
decided on the printing house and black and white interior of the book. :)
(I think) that Amazon.co.jp informed me that they sent UFO CD today, but
with set of characters on my computer I can't be sure (until I check their
site) :) The sample Marc made available sounds great to me (thanks Marc),
and I can't wait to hear the rest...
