Hi, everyone.
Been a fan for a LOOOONG time, was a member of the old listserv. I have my old set of UFO episodes up for auction on ebay here: http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1403436132 I included my UFO Documentary tape and the SHADO Secret File tape, too. Thanks for looking! Michael |
I don't want to rain on anyone's parade here, but
after checking on this auction, it was brought to my attention that this complete set of UFO were tapes recorded from the Japanese LD set. The seller has since pulled the auction as it is an infringing item and not authorized or licensed. How I wish it were...However, after doing some other checking on eBay, I have found at least 5 other auctions selling the exact same set, with the EXACT same description and TOS! And, in every case, they are only dupes made from the LDs. (One auction was for VCDs of the series...."Much easier to store" says the seller...)No one should be asked to pay $100, $120 or even the "buy prices" of $140 for these boots. If someone had the box set and would make copies for me, I would pay for the tapes and perhaps for the cost of box art and such, but not $100--and certainly not in a forum like eBay. I'm not naive about the abundance of grey-market vids and bootlegs in a number of genres but as more studios get savy about the Internet, they are shutting such auctions down in a hurry. The sale of these kind of items is only going to hurt any planned release of the series on DVD both in the UK and the U.S. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Well since it is the only way to get copies (for most people), and if
you break it down you are paying about $6.00 per episode and some poor schmoe has to sit through them all while he tapes them over and over, I don't know that anyone is getting rich from them. I'm sure this sort of thing will abate when the DVD sets come out, but until then I think we should be glad that anyone bothers to make them all available, since ITC never did in the US. At least Carlton plans on doing so, and they have been aggressively merchandising all of G. A.'s properties. If there is an abundance of licensed materials available, bootlegging will slow down.
