LOL.  I like it!  Steampunk (look it up) Interceptors!!  : )

Ok, my last off topic post about steam locomotives.  You mentioned thelarge size of the Mallard's firebox.  It happens to be 231.2 square feet in area, with an effective grate area of 41.25 square feet.  By comparison, FWIW (nothing, really), the firebox area of the Northern Pacific Z-5 class loco is 872 square feet, with a grate area of 182 square feet.  Now THAT is large.  : )

Neo-Victorian science fiction. Think "Wild, Wild West" on TV
or "The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen" or "The Difference
Engine" in books. There was a lot of things that could be used
in science fiction then: telephone, telegraph, trains, people
working on rockets and flying machines.

You'd have a shock if I said I was wouldn't you!! :-) No I teach in a hospital and my 'schoolroom' is one of the single rooms! And yes I get very claustrophobic and hot! The temperature was 32 degrees C on Thusday and I can't open the window!
I also don't have much to do there sometimes which is why I spend time drawing and writing UFO stories! And lurking on this site!

Re: Con in Bristol

Duh on you?  More like duh on me.  Maybe a couple months  after I had joined the group (and hadn't been back yet), and before I really understood that messages could be both posted directly through the group and through email, and read the same way, I posted a question asking whyI was seeing "Nafofu" on some of my posts, and what the heck it meant.  In my old age I had totally forgotten.  Fortunately, a fellow lister obviously smarter than I am figured it out and pointed this out to me.  So duh on me.

I can't believe I just revisited one of the most embarassing episodes in mylife.

P.S.  In my defense (?), I had tried about a dozen variations on "SHADO" for a user name, and all were already taken or disallowed.  So in frustration I just typed ufofan backwards.  So it wasn't my first choice, and I think I was traumatized by the entire thing.  : )
