I personally think that this was one of the better UFO
episodes done. I felt that this episode really did a number of good things... For one, I think it brought to the forefront how important Straker is to SHADO in the way he was able to determine what the aliens were going to do. It also introduced the Straker vs Henderson rivalry which became prevalent throughout the series. Secondly, while we all know that Foster tends to be a maverick at times regardless of what his orders are, his "true colors" about his respect and loyalty towards Straker came out when Henderson asked him to "take over command" and he promptly replied: "I take my orders from Commander Straker," was a classic moment. Also classic was Foster sitting back down from only a "look" by Straker after his outburst towards Henderson. The only question I have about the episode was that while it appeared that Straker was keeping his intentions relatively secret about what he was going to do about the alien attack on SHADO HQ, how was it that Miss Ealand knew about the approach of Sky-1? Did Straker tell her? She was shown looking out her office window twice as well as looking at her watch when Sky-1 finally appeared. . . Just my two cents! Yes, I think Miss Ealand was told to look for Sky One. After they went into the radio silence, Straker said that they were going to wait for "a voice". Miss Ealand's voice! Marc |

Jason's comments are right on the money in my mind---well said Jason! I
wonder what is supposed to have happened to turn Henderseon into the "bad guy" of the IAC though. I can't recall anything in any of the previous episodes that would lead us to believe he went from supporting Straker in the beginning to considering Straker a "thorn in his side". He hints at something when explains that Straker's organization hogs all the funding...but since when did it become Straker's organization in his mind? Wasn't Henderson right there, spearheading the creation of SHADO originally? Maybe I'm dreaming...too many well read fanfiction stories. Mary |
