Convention Review

Lightcudder
The organisers of TV21 asked for reviews of the convention.. wanting to post some in their magazine. So I wrote one. .. rather tongue-in-cheek,  and emailed it.. and didn't hear anything. So I tried again with another address. Still nothing. Not even an acknowledgement.

So I have posted it on the SHADO forum under Fanfic.. First Assignment..for anyone who might be interested.

I'll stick it on my site as well.. with a link to it from the  main page.

Hmmm! I've no idea!  you could try going to the Forum and Library section and starting a new topic!  Anything you like... even ..'Problems with posting' - That  would give you a post count of 1! or try  posting a reply under one of the stories..
if that doesn't work I'll contact the Head Librarian for you!

Well, that was a very creative con report.  :-)

So have you posted your pictures anywhere?  Did you (or
anyone?) record the Alan Shubrook presentation?

Thankyou Marc! I had fun writing it! Well someone had to uphold the UFO side didn't they!

I didn't record the Alan Shubrook presentation.. I don't have a video camera and much of it was probably  covered in his book.

I only took photos of the UFO models .. and there were only about four of those.. I will put them up later, but there are pics on Fanderson of them all if any one is desperate.

I musy admit I was a little .. peeved, to do a review and then not even get an acknowledgement that they had received it.. even when I sent it to the address stated!
But as I said, it was only tongue-in-cheek!

Okay, it sounds like there wasn't a whole lot there for a UFO fan.  The
only Fanderson convention I ever went to ("Century 21") was in comparison
a major UFO event, with original Sky One & Interceptor models, plus
a guest list which included Ed Bishop, Gabrielle Drake, Peter Gordeno,
Gerry Anderson, Ken Turner (director), and Alan Perry (director).

Re: Convention Review

The obvious problem is that, unlike Thunderbirds etc, the 'actors' are getting older. they won't want to be coming out to conventions for much longer I would have thought!
As an Anderson fan, I  enjoyed the whole experience, but I can see that any die-hard UFO fan might have felt 'short-changed'.

If the film (and it is a BIG if) finally makes it to the screen, it might reawaken interest in the original series. One can only hope, so.......hang on in there!!

Thanks for reminding me Marc. What a wonderful con that was! Just seeing so many members of the UFO cast there was worth the trip from the U.S.!

Very creative report Louise. Mine was quite dull by comparison but I'm not a writer.

Let's just hope someone recorded Alan Shubrooke's talk/presentation. He may have taken most of the info from his book but seeing someone talk
about their work can be very different than reading it.

Yes, and who can forget when Lorraine became speechless when she
found herself sitting at the same cafeteria table as Ed Bishop?  :-)

And I'm still trying to forget the idiot move I made by
trying to talk to Ed Bishop when he was in the middle of
catching up with Gabrielle Drake.  :-(

Me speechless! Charlie hasn't seen it since... Well if we are going to discuss regrets, then I'll have to admit that I felt very bad (once I realized) about missing the group photo. I *did* have a valid excuse though. The other regret is that I let jetlag get the best of me and missed the disco that night :( I can sleep anytime. I cannot ever sit at the bar with Ed or watch Peter Gordeno dance again. :( We're still very thankful to Fanderson for the opportunity to meet them all and see them together and for being able to meet you and Dave Watkins (may he rest in peace) as well.

Let's not forget that Louise got to meet "the man" himself - Gerry Anderson and many of his fans. That is worth making the trip for as well.
