Correction -- Selectric Typewriter, not Teletype

Hi all,

Here is an interesting correction I received from someone
named Len Fischer:

-----
Greetings. Here's a minor correction to the UFO Series music page, where it says:

Main theme (without teletype noise) -- 536k MP3

Main theme (with teletype noise) -- 538k MP3

That's not actually a Teletype machine, it's an IBM Selectric typewriter. Teletypes
sound, look, and actually are heavier, clunkier and slower - would not have looked
or sounded as cool and would have been even more dated than the Selectric looks today.

Is this the same typewriter that appears during the opening
credits to "Journey to the Far Side of the Sun" ("Doppelganger")?
That one seems to be printing a lot slower than in the UFO intro.
Chris Bentley's UFO book states the camera was undercranked to give
the impression of a fast printer.
Also, the UFO introduction would have taken longer if it went at
it's normal (1969) speed.
The firm I worked for in 1978 bought one of these Selectrics for
typesetting, and by this time these "golfball" typewriters were
printing about the same speed as the one in UFO. A pretty good speed
guess for the producers of series.

Lots of pics of Selectric typewriters here, if anyone's interested:
