Could Commander Straker survive without SHADO?

Stuart
I'm new here (in fact I just discovered UFO a few weeks ago), so I
don't know if this has been discused already.

Image that the UFOs have stopped coming, over Commander Straker's
objections SHADO has been disbanned. What happens to Ed Straker? I'm
not worried about the others returning to "normal" life. Colonel
Foster for example could become a test pilot again, but it seems to me
that SHADO is Ed Straker's life. He sacrificed his marriage and his
son's life to it. He doesn't appear to have any friends (he and his
commanding officer ceased to get along years ago and his friend Alex
apparently quit SHADO at some point). I'm afraid Ed Straker would
become a bitter, lonely old man, if he didn't die of lung cancer
first.

RE: Could Commander Straker survive without SHADO?

Griff!
Hi All :)

I hope it's not interior design ;) ...on the other hand, he's better than
Laurence Llewellyn-Bowen (slightly weird and suspect UK TV interior
designer)

Best to all :)

I see him haunting the dimmly lit halls of SHADO for a long time after they
stop coming! Perhaps he'd take up an active role at the studios so he could
continue his lonely haunt down below!

Good thought-provoking question!

RE: Could Commander Straker survive without SHADO?

Straker would survive on his hate for the UFOes alone. If he did taske an actual role in the studio I am sure that they would either succeed beyound any expectations, due to his single minded focus. Either that or someone would pop him since they hated his guts for that self same drive.I can't think of any FanFic, off hand, that has explored this possibility. Any suggestions?By the way, Foster is too old to return to flying status, now command of an expermental air unit or something like that is a distinct possibility. But what would some of the others do? I can just see that on a ressume... Spent the last six years in command of a top secreat moonbase flight of interceptors. I am an ace ten times over, got anything in my line of work?

Help with Moonbase

dsfrankiii
Blundering into the Konami models on E-bay has really rekindled my
interest in UFO - a huge fan of the series when it originally aired,
I lamented the fact that there were no cool UFO toys at the time in
the states. A few yrs ago I got the series on VHS from a SF
convention dealer & have watched them repeatedly, unfortunately my
family doesn't appreciate UFO.

I've got a few of the Knoami Kits & really like them and won an
auction for the reissued Moonbase kit for less than buying if from
Monsters in Motion, Comet or Hobbylink (if they had it in stock).

The Moonbase kit looks a bit daunting as the instructions are in
japanese but it appears well enough tooled. I really like that it
came with the 14 additional vehicles which got me started on the idea
of a diorama. I built the Space 1999, Moonbase Alpha kit a few years
ago & it turned out quite well - I did replace the out of scale
control room with a scratch built monolith & pit from 2001 - turned
out really cool - some day I'll post pictures.

Now I have the bug to do a UFO Moonbase diorama but can't figure out
where the interceptor launch craters are in relation to the base. If
you look at the base like a body with the Shuttle launch dome as the
head, I always thought they be off to the right of the leg on the
right side. Difficulty is there aren't any photos that I can find
that show the lauch craters - let alone in relation to Moonbase. The
few photos I did find of both Interceptors & the base put them flying
by -from head to feet - on the left side of the base - not conclusive
by any means.

Any coments or additional resources I could use would be greatly
appreciated.

Also, anybody else notice that the moon dirt has a distincitly brown
hue in the color photos you see on the web, or is it just me?

Thanks - Dave
