DVD Release in Region 4 (Australia)

Chris Avis
I sent some email to Carlton Video enquiring into a
DVD release of UFO in region 4 (Australia) and had
the following response:

> Ufo will be released on DVD 18th March 2002.
> We only have the UK rights on this title, so
> we will only be doing Region 2.

I had thought that Carlton had bought UFO outright.
This email implies this is not true. Does anyone know
who actually owns UFO and how this licensing works.
Also does anyone know if there are any plans to release
in region 4.

Luckily I own a region free player, but I was interested
to know the answer anyway and possibly avoid the hassle
of ordering from Blackstar or Amazon (we have a terrible
exchange rate at the moment).

Regards
Chris

UFO is owned by Carlton International Media Ltd. You
corresponded with Carlton Video, which is a different
company, and is the licensee for the UK home video release,
the same as A&E is a licensee for a USA home video
release. For a Region 4 Australian release of UFO,
an Australian video company would have to negotiate
with Carlton International Media Ltd.

Martin, thanks for setting me straight. I emailed Carlton International
and managed to get the response below:

I will try and keep all you anxious Aussies upto date.
