I suspect it won't be too long before the USA UFO DVD's are out-of-print as well. A&E has already started discontinuing various ITC series DVDs. And yes, Carlton *has* sold the rights to Granada Ventures. And if UFO is re-released on DVD again in the UK, the company which has the rights is now Network. All this news has no impact on the Australian UFO DVDs, which are presumably still being released later this year. Marc |

Curiously, UFO DVD set 2 is also on clearance, but UFO DVD set 1 and the UFO megaset are still regularly priced. Marc |

It seems that Carlton are getting out the sell-through DVD business, period. The original digipak boxed set were quite quickly replaced with a tacky slipcase that wraps around the stock amaray cased versions. I suspect given a year or so the original digipak versions will start appearing on eBay and the like at a premium. It is is probably not quite right to say that Carlton have sold the rights of the ITC catalogue to Network they have merely licensed part of it - allbeit a good part of it, and the catalogue will revert back to Carlton at the end of the term of the contract. Perhaps a small but important distinction. Not wishing to be a "Jonah" but there has been some spectuation that the Network deal has already affected some of the proposed Umbrella. With the release dates of some eargerly awaited titles slipping. We will just have to see how it pans out in the fullness of time. I also did'nt see UFO in the list of titles that had been transfered to Network - I'm not saying it is not in there, I just did'nt see it. It would appear that Network are going to concentrate on the ITC titles that have not already released [Dept S et-al] and the bigger sellers [that were not properly remastered] such as Randall and Hopkirk and the Avengers - so I suspect it could be a while before we see UFO out again on DVD. Bearing in mind Network have a history of being some what slow in getting titles to market - but they do tend to be worth the wait as they are nearly always universally acclaimed attention to detail. Meant to add that HMV have both the Carlton boxed priced at £20 each. The Lunadude |
