Just been watching The Dalotek Affair, in which there's a remarkable
scene which I'd never really taken notice of before.
Straker holds a video-telephone conversation with the head of
Dalotek, a civilian geological survey organisation, quite openly
acknowledging his status as commander of a military organisation
with a base on the moon. Straker's face is clearly visible over the
video link. Later in the same episode, the aforementioned Dalotek
head honcho refers to his conversation with "Commander Straker" when
talking to one of his subordinates.
Given that Straker is supposed to be head of a film studio, doesn't
this seem like an extraordinary compromise of security?
Another thing that struck me was Straker's comment that all the
mineral deposits on the moon had been exhausted 'years ago' -
wouldn't it take rather more than a few years to find and entirely
exhaust the mineral wealth of the moon? And certainly there's no
evidence of industrial ravage in Survival .. the lunar surface looks
pretty well unscathed, except of course for meteor craters.
