Der erste Alarm - Identified

Christian J.
Hi All!

I've added a file from an old german TV mag named "HörZu".
Neither COURT MARTIAL nor CONFETTI CHECK A-OK were dubbed in german,
therefore I took one from IDENTIFIED (Der erste Alarm). The picture
quality is perhaps not the best one but scanning is something new to
me :-)

I'll try to translate the text into english:

"Remarkable at this twelf-part TV series is the fact that the plot
was put into the relatively near future. The shown techical
achievements fulfil thoroughly the possibilites, which, providing the
progress of the present astronautics and weapons, will be possible
very soon. The hero of the series is Straker, head of Shado, an
organisation for defense of alien invaders on Earth. Furthermore the
organisation maintains a base on the Moon, where interceptors of the
most progressive style could lift-off also. Shown: Gabriele Drake and
Joan Harrington."

I hope I've translated it not too bad :-)
Of course UFO wasn't a twelf-part series. Actually it should read a
seventeen-part series because there were only seventeen episodes
dubbed into german. Oh, and concerning the "near future", this
article was from 1972.

Forseen The Future

I'm sure someone has brought this up before, but since
I just joined the group, I wanted to add my two cents.
One of the things that strikes me most about "UFO" is
how the series--made in 1969/1970--actually
"predicted" the current popular viewpoint of UFOs and
"visitors" in here and now. During the time of UFO's
production, "flying saucers" were something that
people observed and, if possible, snapped a photo of.
They were just sightings by one or more people. There
was no talk of any clue of "alien abduction" in our
culture until Betty & Barney Hill story became popular
(due to a TV movie) and then capped off with
Streiber's recent series of books. But "UFO" took it a
step further---aliens abducting human beings for organ
harvest instead of experimentation. It just amazes me
how the series "predicted" this phenomena by 15-20
years while at the time UFOs were sighted and treated
as curiosities and not a personal "theat"--even in
American cinema.

...prediction and genial UFO's scriptwriters; as the "prediction" of
a UFO destroyed on the Croxley's home, just I think to something of
similar with the recent 11 september disaster...
