Destruction

OK, I know the story about the gaps between filming episodes. In fact, you
can see Straker limping as he plays golf with Foster.

Now, that game of golf is my first gripe - it doesn't seem Straker's style at
all. However my real gripe is the discontinuity in the Henderson/Straker
relationship. I loved the way these two fought each other yet in this
episode they are postively cordial. Pity.

Well, actually, Ed Bishop got his ankle injured during the filming of
MINDBENDER (during the gun shootout sequence), which was filmed
*after* DESTRUCTION. So any limping during DESTRUCTION must've been
due to something else...

Thanks for that little behind the scenes tidbit, Marc! Does this mean that
we're discussing the episode Destruction now? I kinda got lost on where we
were in the series over the holidays. You know how it is: family! They can
sure play havoc with a great obsession, can't they?
*chuckle*

UFO Episode Discussions -- THE SOUND OF SILENCE

Well, we had a little (unannounced) break for the holidays, as
they're hectic for a lot of people. The next UFO episode up for
discussion is... THE SOUND OF SILENCE! This is the first episode
made at Pinewood studios, 6 months after the previous episode
SUB-SMASH. Some even go so far to consider this the 2nd
series/season of UFO, but I've always considered it one season.

So if anyone's got any comments on this episode, please make them
within the next 2 weeks!

When Russell Stone is abducted in this episode, he is carried in a
scuba-tank-shaped suspended animation capsule. But when Foster is
abducted in "Ordeal", he is carried in a spare spacesuit. I wonder
how often and why the aliens choose each method? As regards the
method used in non-canon stories, in the comic strip story "The
Snatch", Foster is abducted to the alien homeworld in an alien
spacesuit, and steals a UFO and flies himself back home. And in the
fan fiction story "Fearful" in the SHADO Library, Straker is abducted
in an alien spacesuit but overpowers the UFO's crew and escapes
without leaving Earth's atmosphere. I have found the suspended
animation capsule method in a UFO / Star Trek crossover story in the
SHADO Library.

If the UFO hides in a lake, as in this episode, likely SHADO would
not find it as easily if the incident happened in Minnesota or
Finland!, unless they can easily detect a submerged UFO while flying
over without having to put submerged sensors in each lake.

First I do think that the second part of UFO is indeed
like a second series, new cast members, some lost etc.
New more out-there plots, etc.

Anyway I think The Sound of Silence once again shows
the true artistic strides of UFO. Even the opening
credits with the silence as the horse is jumping shows
great thought and care on the part of the editor and
director. This is just another fine example of what
quality film making can be, in the right hands of
experts can be.

Oh, as for a UFO being in a lake in Minnesota thats
where I live, dont you think Jessie our Governor would
have put on his Predator clothes and been in that
water in his old Navy Seal gear?

If he can find in time which lake it is, in an area with many lakes,
particularly if some of the lakes have underwater thermoclines and/or
complicated underwater geography that can hide the UFO from sensors.
