Actually James this is not a slight difference.
The whole structure of the bottom aspect of the model is different. The modelmakers went out of their way to make it different. The interesting thing is why they did it.

I,ve always been fascinated by this model.I happen to think it is the most sublime creation.Every kit or replica I,ve seen of this model has been inaccurate and unimpressive. Its structure and design was always difficult to determine, especially back in 1971 when I became spellbound by its ethereal qualities (Derek Meddings word).

To be honest with you I always knew the larger/closeup was different. Its just that at the time I did,nt know why.Now I do.

Regards Mark

Yeah, the "big" UFO model (seen crashlanding in QOP) was my favorite
of the bunch. Unfortunately, this version of the model is rarely
seen in UFO, and I don't think I've ever seen a publicity or
behind-the-scenes photo which shows it well. Nor a collector who
has it. It seems to quite mysterious... perhaps they blew
it up? (!)

Seemingly, all we've got are the episodes themselves... where's
a frame capture?! :-)
