I've been watching the eBay auctions recently and even put a bid in on one
Dinky SHADO Mobile only to be outbid by a whopping dollar. I wasn't watching the auction because that annoys me. The reason I bring this up is because I want to acquire one for my permanent train layout (http://www.thelynx.com/railscan/articles/layouts/gallitzinwestern/). I felt this could be the start of a little dioramatic area and it would be interesting to have one grinding through the trees. However, I hate the auction process and some of the prices on eBay are abit high. So, I was wondering if anyone here knows of a source to purchase these things? The one I'm looking for doesn't have to be in mint condition and I don't care about the box. I'd just like it to be intact and functional. A few scratches, or replacement parts doesn't bother me. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hi all,
On the American Sci-Fi Channel, they are showing "digitally remastered & restored" versions of Battlestar Galactica this week. However, looking at the broadcasts, they look (to me) about the same as they always did! Which is to say that they look much worse than UFO does on DVD. It makes me wonder why the nobody used the term "restored" when referring to the UFO DVDs -- certainly it looks as good or better than other shows which make the claim of being "restored". Marc |

Why not buy the Imai kit of the mobile, it can still be picked up for
between ten and fifteen quid. You will also have fun building it. The Lunadude --- In [hidden email], "The Lynx" <thelynxpa@h...> wrote: > I've been watching the eBay auctions recently and even put a bid in on one > Dinky SHADO Mobile |

For what? The Konami Lt. Ellis. Lovely as she is, this does seem s tad on the excessive side. > The reason I bring this up is because I want to acquire one for my permanent > train layout > (http://www.thelynx.com/railscan/articles/layouts/gallitzinwestern/). *off topic mode on* By gum! Marc;
I see your point, I was off yesterday and watch most of the Battlestar Galactia that was on. In some scenes, it looked too dark. I remember when it was first broadcast and it was lighter [brighter]. I think they might be using the terms more freely these days. Too bad, I wsn't able to get everything set up to tape the whole series. OH well. Thanks; Steve Christensen >On the American Sci-Fi Channel, they are showing "digitally >remastered & restored" versions of Battlestar Galactica this week. |

Well, as they say, size matters. Is it the same or near the same size
as the Dinky? BTW, I don't do quid except when I am watching Eastenders. I do greenbacks. Hi Bob,
I dont know if you ever make it into New York, and its been a while since I have been to this place, but the Red Caboose in Manhattan on 46 st (?) had lots of old models from tv series I remember seeing over the years .I dont remember a UFO model, but if you are near the place, browse, you never know :) Bruce ----- Original Message ----- From: <[hidden email]> To: <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, February 18, 2003 4:33 PM Subject: [SHADO] Re: Dinky SHADO Mobile > Well, as they say, size matters. Hi Bob, Catching up on my email as I dig my driveway out of 2 feet of snow! I really feel old today! Anyway, what about the Konami UFO mobiles? They are smaller than the Dinkys and I don't know anything about scale railroading but if you used the Konami couldn't you place it further back on the layout to give it more depth? You can get these on Ebay a bit cheaper than the Dinky ones maybe along the price line of the kits? Or a little cheaper? I'll probably be looking to trade or sell my duplicates over the summer. I want to keep one set MIB and another together for display. I may make a few into Christmas tree ornaments (Probably destroy the collectablity but the KONAMI items are the perfect size to hang in the tree! If they only lit up like the trek ones.) >Bob |

Subject: RE: "Digitally Remastered & Restored" >Big British Co. who are extremely >well known in the world of TV and radio broadcasting. :-) It has been mentioned several times that the Beeb Beeb Ceeb (BBC), did the remastering. They have also done Supercar I bekive, but not for the UK market. |

Hey Phil -
I've shoveled about the same depth here. And, gee, it's gonna snow tomorrow. Yay... Thanks very much for the input and suggestions. My railroad is O gauge which is considered 1/43rd scale in diecast land. I took a represetative vehicle, a lovely sky blue 1958 Edsel Citation, and measured it at just about 5 inches (127 mm). The Konami Mobile is approximately 2.75 inches (69.85 mm) and way too small for this purpose. The concept of placing it in the background would work save for the fact that my layout does not have significant depth. Also, I am thinking about a little UFO diorama area to add some visual interest. The Dinky measures in at at little over 6.75 inches (175 mm) and seems a good size, but not perfect. Perhaps the suggestion of the Imai kit will be the best solution. However, when you get around to selling, give me a yell. I'd like to hear what you have. Finally, I did some poking around the web about SHADO Mobiles, both Dinky and Imai, and came across the following page: http://www.smallartworks.ca/Gallery/Mobile/Mobile.html If you haven't seen this one before, make sure you take a minute. The modeling effects are superb and the photo at the bottom of the page is more cool. I must get one of those in my driveway. --- In [hidden email], Phil Merkel <captphil@o...> wrote: > Catching up on my email as I dig my driveway out of 2 feet of snow! Does anyone know of a site or two featuring more information or interviews
with the people who did the restoration/remastering for UFO? As we all have seen it's really impressive work. I guess it helps if the original 35mm film elements are in good shape to begin with... I would estimate that the Imai kit of the Mobile must be close to 1/48
[it probably was'nt originally made to a scale] Although not perfect by any means [those infernal Japanese gimmicks !] if you want a truely accurate Mobile but with a bit of additional work this kit can be turned into a nice model. With the Imai kit you have the option of getting the colour right as well - better than the British Army green Dinky orginally used. I still think they are pretty easy kits to locate [it was re-issued as a motorised remote control kit last year - but earlier non motorised incarnations are just as easy to track down] They seem to sail through eBay [a lot unsold] for a around the £15 quid mark. Maybe you could try Comet, MIM or John Green. The Lunadude. |
Yeah. What was up with that green anyway?
I think a good case has been made for the Imai kit. I'm even considering lighting it which would look eerie tucked away in the woods. Thanks for the thoughts. Hello,
Could someone post the best order to watch the episodes. The characters are so deep I feel like it will help keep it all together. Barry |

However, I've promoted a certain order on my website for quite some time, which can be found in my short UFO episode guide: http://ufoseries.com/eps-short.html Occasionally I think that perhaps I should alter this order to put EXPOSED second, as this was the original intent of the series, and certainly is an acceptable alternative. Which can't be any worse than the horrendous lime green Dinky, consciously and deliberately, used for many of their interceptors. Dave. |
