I've just turned on my tv and "Doppelganger" is on (British ITV).
It's interesting to see Ed and George, pre-UFO, along with some other UFO regulars (Keith Alexander and Jeremy Wilkin). Also some of the props, costumes and cars are recycled from the movie for UFO. Nick |
I only found out it was on earlier that evening. At least I did find out, unlike the last time ITV showed it (I think) when they put it out at about 11.00am on a weekday morning a couple of years ago - but didn't tell anyone it was going out until it actually did. Apparently it was a replacement for something else. As I remember, on previous occasions when ITV have put Doppelganger (A better title methinks than the slightly dumbed down version Journey...) out, there's always been controversy about them meddling with the film whenever Roy Thinnes' character sees that everything's reversed. The filmmakers went to the trouble of making mirror images of labels and when the film's been shown, some plank at ITV has flipped the image. Result being that when Roy Thinnes starts reacting to something he's seen, we think he's flipped because we can't see what he does. Sometimes ITV put out the mucked about with version, sometimes the proper version. I managed to tape it so I'll soon find
out. Yes, in many ways the film was a precursor to UFO. Almost a rehearsal, in fact. As such, it is interesting to see many UFO cast members dotted about the place, out of character, as it were. Still, if ITV have meddled with the film it would be nice if it did indeed come out on DVD. Nick <[hidden email]> wrote: I've just turned on my tv and "Doppelganger" is on (British ITV). I'm sure I read that in some cases, the film was flipped over as you say, but not always. In some cases specially made props such as labels and printed text were made in what we would consider the wrong way round. In any case, in previous showings, ITV have mucked about with the film, but it would seem that this time they left it alone.
