Hello All!
Well, let's go on with the episode discussion. E.S.P. (Eds Security Problem? :-), an episode which wasn't dubbed into German. Although here are all our beloved ones together: Straker, Freeman, Foster and Ellis (just Dr. Jackson is missing); for the hardware fans a UFO crashing into a house, Interceptors, great shots of SHADO mobiles, everything the heart desires. And it's not a bad episode. Let us take a closer looook ;-) * Straker: "This zig-zaging [of the UFO] is unusual." Yes, by all means, it is. Watching the track on the radar screen it looks like a drunken Alien is behind the controls of the UFO <hicks> #-P * The explosions of the Interceptor missiles are (again) from IDENTIFIED. * After the attack of the Interceptors, Harrington, watching her screen and pushing some buttons, says: "Positive! Contact lost." Hm, I can see that, Lt. Harrington, because your screen shows simply nothing. Therefore: Contact lost :-) * I've always wondered how they can make useful readings by watching a screen which shows nothing more than a spot wandering from one end to the other. (But don't take my comments too serious for this is a TV series and not a big budget movie. And of course I know that, but hey, it's fun! :-) * And again they send the Mobiles to a specific area although the UFO is far away and can always change course! * I like this shot when the UFO is seen flying in space near the Earth atmosphere. * Watch Foster in the Mobile! From the outside you can see windows on the left and the right hand-side of the driver's cab. But the shots of the inside shows a wall with two screens on it. * Must be spooky to hear this strange sound of the UFO in the mid of the night * An envelope full of stamps and what's the address? "Mr. Ed Straker, Harlington-Straker Studios, Harlington West, Wessex" At least, I think that the last word is "Wessex", can anyone tell me if this is possible? * Foster seems to have the gift of E.S.P. also. When Croxley aims at him in the phone box he seems to senses this. * This gullwing doors of the cars must be a challenge sometimes. Think of it. You're in a parking spot with cars on the left and the right. And now try to open the doors. Could be that you have to leave the car crawling on the floor through the small gap the door left. A last word: every time I watch Ed Bishop as Straker, a UFO flying through space, Mobiles and Skydiver in action, the Interceptors lifting off like dragonflies and the wonderful Gay Ellis in her uniform with the purple wig on, I recognise one thing: how much I love this series :-)) CU Christian ============================================================== "Could you call an emergency action on a large scale? Been awhile since I posted about anything but reading Christian's made me
think for a few things. I need to sit down and get the tape of E.S.P. and watch it again as it is a episode I have on tape. One think I can comment on just now is Foster turning in the phone box. In the military and intelligence agencies when you are taught how to take out sentries you are taught not to stare at them as you make your attack. There is some old animal instinct left in us that lets us sense some one looking at us from behind. Try it at a party sometime. Just pick out someone who is looking the other way and stare. They will turn. All for now, except to tell Christian, that Gay said since you missed tracker training and don't know how to read a scope you are to report for train at 0400 GMT first of next month. Pick up your purple wig and catsuit :-) James K. |

Yes, I tried that many years ago, but it was a fifty-fifty chance that the person I stared at turned. But I know the feeling when you think that someone is watching you. Had that, too. At least sometimes :-) > All for now, except to tell Christian, that Gay said since > you missed tracker training and don't know how to read a scope > you are to report for train at 0400 GMT first of next month. > Pick up your purple wig and catsuit 0400!! 8- But that's a little bit early in the morning, don't you think?! All right, all right. I know that's an order. But I won't put on this silly wig! It only fits the girls, not the men. And my silver suit suits me more than this catsuit. I know you! You will only have fun on my expense, won't you? ;-) CU Christian =============================================================== "Now I don't care if that bird came from outer space or Upasida River, New Jersey. Hi all,
Anyone have any more comments on our current UFO episode up for discussion -- E.S.P.? Or did Christian say it all? :-) -- Marc Martin, [hidden email] |

E.S.P. was a good episode for several reasons. It was suspenseful, even when the scenario didn't make much sense (i.e. UFO hits house in kamikaze attack just to kill Croxley's wife? or Straker and Freeman go out to the ruined house alone with no back-up? Forget that, even if Croxley could ferret it out. Sensible just wouldn't GO!) I loved the hospital scene. It really shows you just how sympathetic a man Straker really is! *chuckle* And Straker's digs later about the "little man" Paul kept seeing. I especially liked the scene where Paul talks to Dr. Shroeder near the end of the episode. Hey, Doc! That was some good advice there! *grin* The Croxleys themselves weren't very intriguing people, although I did feel a little sorry for Stella. But the part I remembered best over the years was that package sent to Straker from Croxley. Some script, don't you think? Anyway, an all-around good episode for all three of the command team, with a special little perk for Paul when he gets to save the day! Straker, somehow it's always about you.

I also have always wondered if it is necessary to kill Croxleys wife with a whole U.F.O. - what for? But the episode is sometimes very chilling: e.g. when Croxleys wife hears the sound of the incoming U.F.O. Sometimes when I am on my loggia at night, the forest next to my home I imagine the sound of a U.F.O. landing nearby... OK, I've got a vivid imagination :-)) CU Christian ============================================================= "A ghastly caricature, like something distorted by pressure." One of the most interesting points about "ESP" is that we get to hear an
indication of why the aliens are coming to Earth, as they use Croxley as a mouthpiece in one of the scenes. The actor who played Croxley, (I can't remember his name and I don't recall seeing him in anything else) certainly got into his role; he is almost unbearably edgy at times. Peter Buckley |

Peter, John Stratton played Croxley. Just take a look at IMDB http://us.imdb.com/Name?Stratton,+John CU Christian =================================================== "Why are we always so quick to kill. It's an alien. His character's name was "Brownie"; see image 97 in that episode, among others.
