Ed at Glascow -- not!

Marc Martin

Hi all,

Paolo Malaguti tells me that Ed Bishop did NOT go to the Glascow
memorabilia fair, because the organizers decided not to pay for
his expenses. He does not know if Shane Rimmer or Mike
Billington went.

Hi,

Mike did attend the Glasgow event, under Bondstars, as with Shane Rimmer I think but don't quote me.

According to Mike it was something to do with payment of expenses, as they were supposed to do the Birmingham event with the same people, it was some kind of memorabilia stand to do with Anderson production, but I don't have any more details other than that, Francis Mathews was also supposed to be there with Ed too. Because of this Mike pulled out of the Birmingham event, on the same principle..other that I really don't have any more details.

I hope this helps..

Carie.

Sorry I don't have any photos but I did speak to him for a wee while. I
wanted a photo that I have had for ages signed and he very kindly signed it
for me. Maude Adams was sitting next to Mike and she said it was a great
photo and he looked good in it. Mike's reply was that time had not been
kind but I told him that wasn't true :o)

My friend got a different photo signed - the famous sitting in the sauna one
and Maude Adams told Mike he really had it then :o)

Mike was gracious, kind and very friendly - a lovely guy :o)

I will scan the photo and put it into the photo album so everyone can look
at it.

Cheers,
Lesleyxx

Unfortunately, Shane received the same shoddy treatment by the
organisers (who shall remain nameless) as Ed and Francis, and so was
also absent from the event.

I believe the promoters - a scale-model memorabilia company - were
first going to do a promotion based on models from the Anderson
series, with associated actors (Ed, Shane and Francis) 'fronting'
it. Very late in the day, they changed their minds, and went with a
promotion on 'Battlestar Galactica' models, to be fronted by two of
that series' actors. And so dropped the Anderson people.

What a shame only one of the 'Galactica' actors turned up - and he
seemed to be less than busy, sitting reading a book for most of the
time :^

Perhaps this will have taught the organisers their lesson - though
it seems unlikely the Anderson people, or anyone who has learnt of
their treatment, will want to deal with them ever again.

Grr.

Isn't it part of a contract to pay expenses? As far as I knew, Ed requests
hotel and expenses, and airfare.

Should I be drafting an angry letter? What was their reason, especially
after they invited him?

Well, this was what I was beginning to suspect. GRRR.

So, has Billington said anything on his website about this?
