The article is written by a certain Ingrid Gabriel and it's got a link to Fanderson, too. I'll send a scan to the group. BTW, I haven't seen the included picture of Foster and Straker from "Exposed" until now. At least, I can't remember. Christian |

> Christian is there an english version I can read? No, sorry, but I've tried to translate it (I hope I did no major mistakes :-) Cult series "UFO" was there success Ed Bishop (73) and Michael Billington (64) died It was the Brit version of Star Trek in a more colorful seventies issue. "UFO", the series with the flying saucers, with Commander Ed Straker and Colonel Paul Foster in the lead. Now both men lost their final battle within 72 hours. Edward Bishop and Michael Billington died in England early this week. In loud colours with purple pageboy hairstyle wearing silver mini- minidresses the girls were stationed on the moon, while Cmd. Straker, peroxide blonde, was acting as filmproducer, though in reality he was leader of SHADO (Supreme Headquarters Alien Defence Organisation). His man for the rough parts: womanizer Foster in an open, of course silvery convertible. The series was cult with the charm of the swingin' sixties, although only 26 episodes were produced between 1969 und '70. Both actors couldn't carry on where the big success of this series left off. Bishop, meanwhile 73 and present as guest star in movie and TV, took part in fanconventions, Billington, 64, considered as James Bond after Roger Moore, was supposed to enjoy him at one of the following conventions for the first time. On Monday, after a routine check-up Bishop died of an infection which he picked up in the hospital, there is nothing known about the circumstances of Billingtons death on Wednesday. Christian |
Thank you Christian for translating it for me. It's amazing that british newspapers are so slow and austrian newspapers pick up news quickly. I just wish they had not used the" Kill Straker" photo. I guess you have to be in the news all the time for you to get a decent obituary when you die.

You're welcome! > It's amazing that british newspapers are so > slow and austrian newspapers pick up news quickly. You can imagine how surprised I was to read this article in an Austrian newspaper! I think I looked very puzzled when I encountered it :-) > I just wish they had not used the" Kill Straker" photo. Interesting that they use a photo from "Exposed" for the paper version ( http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SHADO/files/memorymetropolis/Kurier_05- 06-11.jpg ). > I guess you have to be in the news all the time > for you to get a decent obituary when you die. Well, I doubt it :-/ Christian |

The two obituaries in the British and Austrian newspapers appeared on the same day, as far as I can tell - 10th June. Personally, I was a little disappointed that this unusual occurrence didn't merit even a small mention in the entertainment section of the BBC's news site, at news.bbc.co.uk. -- Dig It : a forum for European Beatles fans - http://beatles.dyndns.org/ |
I know. That is why I was afraid it was a hoax. The passing of both stars almost at the same time and no one outside of fanderson knew it? I was also confused because of the way fanderson puts 21 in thier years. I thought it was a joke or a hoax because we will all be dead in 2105 unless a real anti aging drug comes out.
