Ending Credts

goper428
I know I am a newbie but my question revolves around the ending credits.  As you pull away you see the earth and the moon, then in the last second you see another moon.  Is that suppose to represent the Alien world that is actually closer than we think

I've always thought of it as allegorical.

Hi,

That video sequence was taken from the Gerry and Sylvia Anderson film 'Doppelganger' AKA 'Journey to the far side of the Sun' - made just prior to UFO.

I won't spoil the plot if you haven't seen that film - yet.

UFO owes a great deal to that film.

But, if you see the film or read the plot, all will be explained.

Best to all :)

I don't recall the UFO end credits sequence appearing in JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SUN...
are you thinking of the music and not the visuals, Griff?

As a kid, I always thought that was Mars at the end... but as an adult, obviously that's the Alien
planet, with some artistic license about how close it is to the Earth...

JOURNEY TO THE FAR SIDE OF THE SUN is about to be released on Blu-ray disc in the
USA this week:

Or for those who want to hold out for the release with more special features, there is
supposed to be an Australian Blu-ray of this film released in August... it's supposed
to also contain the UK version of the film (titled DOPPELGANGER), Gerry Anderson
commentary, etc.

Hi Marc,

I know this for sure, as the incongruity of the ending sequence had always puzzled me - although I think it's beautifully executed. and the music perfectly matches the sequence - Barry Gary was a genius!

When I attended the Uforia convention ('88 I believe), I specifically asked about this sequence and was told 'Derek Meddings' that it was originally made for 'Doppelganger' AKA 'Journey to the far side of the Sun.'

That's about all I know.

I really hope this helps.

Hmmm, maybe Derek Meddings was mistaken, as I've seen that film
many times, and I can't recall that sequence appearing in that film,
nor can I think of anywhere that it might have intended to go.

Now, I do seem to recall the rocket launch from the film being reused
for the UFO episode THE MAN WHO CAME BACK.  Can't recall if
any other footage was reused.

Hi Marc,

All I know it what I've already said. But, you could be right. I guess we'll never know. Maybe he meant the scene/photography/lighting setup?

Looking at the ending once again a few times, to me it certainly shows the Sun, Earth and Moon, and then farther out some unexplained 'planet'. Maybe the implication was that this was the alien planet?

In 'Close Up' when asked how long it would take for the first pictures to come through from the B142 space probe (Joan Harrington), Commander Straker said that the 'experts' said four months. So, it's possible that the fairly close - by astronomical standards - could be referring to the planet shown in the closing credits? Who knows?

Of course, this is all speculation. To me, one of the greatest things about UFO is the huge number of unanswered questions...

Hope this helps,

Best to all :)

The ending credits never bothered me much, since I probably never watched it as a little kid: at that times, after the last scene of the episode I would immediatly run to play some game where I was fighting aliens all around.
