SHADO has no compunctions about what it does to preserve it's security or about how it does it or whoit does it to. Not even the supreme commander himself, Straker. Remember in Confetti Check when he was talking to lec about how he wanted to tell Mary? "Our security boys make the CIA look like a bunch of Sunday School teachers. You can't tell her. It's the safest way. It's the only way" Even a little knowledge slipped from poor Ed's mouth would have got Mary Straker executed as a security risk. Ed realised this and it became one of his internal, demons, poor chap.
