Subject: Greetings from a new member

As a new member to this group, I´d like to introduce myself:

My name is Michael and I live in Germany.
I was born in 1960, which means I had the privileg of being old enough to
watch UFO when it was broadcastet for the first time.
Tuesday evening 9 p.m., that was the moment to wait for.
I collected the Panini-cards (and lost them unfortunately), knew everything
by heart - guess I was what you could call a die-hard-fan.

When it was broadcastet again in the 80´s, I recorded every episode. Too
bad
that a privat German TV-station had bought the rights, and they, as you
know, didn´t hesitate to cut scenes in favour of commercials.

Those Video-tapes of mine then spent the next 15-20 years in a box and I
almost forgot about them.

In March 2002, 7 months ago, having become kind-of a PC-specialist when
it
comes to securing video digitally and producing VideoCDs (VCD), the
UFO-tapes came back to life. Naturally, the quality of the tapes hadn´t
improved over the years, but they where still okay. It feels good to know
that now, having them secured on VCD, they can´t become any worse any more.

Getting interested in UFO again, I started searching on the internet.

To be honest: I didn´t really expect to find anything about the series,
or
anyone who would remember. How naive I was!

A discussion-group where people would talk about UFO every day! - more than
30 years after it had been produced! - I could hardly believe what I saw.
Fan-pages in the Internet, Fan-conventions that would be attended by Ed
Bishop himself!!, the series itself soon to be released on DVD! -
unbelievable!
I got very excited - and still am.

On of the best surprises was to see that there were 26 episodes altogether
-
on German TV only 17 had ever been shown. 9 absolutely new (for me that
is)
episodes - wow.

So, for this whole year UFO has played quite a role in my life. I´ve been
watching the episodes closely (from the DVDs) and am enjoying that very
much.
It is so much better to hear everyone talk with her/his own voice. Can you
imagine never having heard what Ed Bishop really sounds like?
He did have an interesting German voice, but still...

I am expecting my wife to sooner or later ask me to "not use the word UFO
any more" - she had to listen to so many UFO-related things for these last
couple of months. Well; I wouldn´t blame here.

Like so many other fans have expressed: it would be very difficult to
explain, where this fascination for UFO comes from.
One important "factor" for me is the role of Cmdr Straker and the man behind
it, Ed Bishop.
