Fanderson Records corrections

Nick Williams
Gareth's recent posting contained a few inaccuracies, which I'd like to take the opportunity of correcting:

> The Fanderson Space 1999 CD releases were very limited; I think
> they pressed around 900 of each. This avoids having to pay musician
> re-use fees (like repeat fees for actors), as there's a cut off
> point, which might well be 1000.

Fanderson ALWAYS pays artists their due royalties (unlike buying bootlegs off Ebay and other places). This is done through the MCPS as would any other release. The restriction on the number of pressings was instigated by Zomba, which held us to just 1000 copies of Year One, in the hope that we might be able to encourage a commercial release. Also, as with all club merchandise, we have to decide how many copies of things like sleeves and booklets to print, to make it as economical as possible.

> Fanderson had to negotiate with Zomba music who at that time owned
> the Barry Gray tapes from Space year 1. However, their releases

Zomba don't own any of the Barry Gray music, but several of the "library" music tracks used throughout the series. The reason "Black Sun" appears in mono is simply because a stereo or multi-track recording no longer exists in Barry's collection.

> The rights to the UFO music are seemingly owned by Carlton.

No, the rights to Barry's music are now owned by several third parties, but not Carlton. However, Carlton owns the actual tapes, and the "intellectual rights" to use the series logo, images etc. Therefore, we've had to negotiate with all the copyright holders.

We're really looking forward to continuing our series with UFO, and thanks to the people who have forwarded comments and suggestions so far. However, your suggestions will only get heard if you send them to me. I don't always get a chance to read the digests on SHADO, so if you want to be heard be sure to copy your comments and suggestions to [hidden email]

Thanks.
