I found this on the Fanderson news section. Not UFO, but still
sounds very cool. I remember seeing THE DAY AFTER TOMORROW years ago
on NBC on a Wednesday afternoon, I believe. I think I'm going to
have to join up now.
Fanderson Releases World's First Internationally Compatible DVD
Updated: May 6th, 2102
Fanderson's forthcoming DVD release of the two Gerry Anderson pilot
films The Day After Tomorrow and Space Police will be the first DVD
to be internationally compatible - not only free of DVD
regionalisation, but also presented in both PAL (the UK, most of
Europe and Australia) and NTSC (USA, Canada and Japan) television
formats on a single disc.*
The Day After Tomorrow is a space adventure made in 1975 between the
two seasons of Space:1999. Directed by Charles Crichton, the
programme stars Brian Blessed, Joanna Dunham and Space:1999's Nick
Tate in the story of two families of exploreres who set off on a
mission to Alpha Centauri and then find themselves hopelessly lost
in space after a collision with a meteorite shower. An edited
version of the film was broadcast by the BBC as Into Infinity in
1976.
Space Police is the original pilot film made in 1986 for the series
that ultimately became Space Precinct in 1994. Directed by Tony
Bell, the programme stars Shane Rimmer as Lt. Chuck Brogan, a New
York police veteran now in command of Space Police Precinct 44 East
orbiting planet Zar XL5. Using a combination of live-action,
animatronic characters and the Supermacromation style of puppetry
seen in Terrahawks, this pilot episode follows Brogan's attempts to
protect Zar XL5's President from assassination by the vengeful
crimelord V. Lann. Although shown at various science-fiction and
Fanderson conventions, Space Police has never been broadcast or
previously released on home video.
Both programmes have been digitally remastered for Fanderson's DVD
release and will be presented with full animated menus and special
features including production notes, the first draft concept for
Space Police, and an extensive gallery of pre-production designs and
behind the scenes photos.
The Day After Tomorrow and Space Police DVD will be released
exclusively via Fanderson Sales on May 20th, but will be available
to purchase first at Fanderson's Stand By For Action convention on
May 18th.
*In countries where SECAM is the national television standard, DVD
players convert a PAL signal to SECAM.
