I saw "Flight Path" the other day, and a couple of things about it
bothered me. First, although we see a UFO has got past SHADO's defences, nobody seems to mention that there is a UFO on the loose somewhere on Earth. They only seem to find out of its existence when it attacks Paul Roper. Second, there's an odd sequence in this episode - after Straker has let Roper go with the intention of seeing who the traitor in SHADO is, he orders Red Alert, and we suddenly get a montage of clips from previous episodes - which, considering that this is the third episode made, aren't many. But they don't make sense - we see a SHADO Transporter deposit some SHADO Mobiles, and said Mobiles on patrol - but if Starker seems to be expecting an attack, what if the UFO(s) go elsewhere? Also in this montage of clips, SID mentions "...Have relocated UFO", but I can't recall the issue of a missing UFO being mentioned. It seems as if they found out that the episode was under- running, so this sequence was concocted. Strange, when it sems that some other scenes were filmed but deleted. |

Comparing the original script to the finished episode, I have to wonder why they rearranged all sorts of scenes, cut some scenes out, and seemingly added "padding" to the episode. I guess as it was the second episode, they were still learning... Marc |

Carlin. (Obviously, the Anderson's only had one of two cars to use for the show so they had to come up with an explanation as to why Roper was driving "Straker's car"). Any thoughts? Jay |

It also might have been a matter of time involving all the clips used in
Flight Path. It has gotten to be a rather recent thing in TV series to have a episode making extensive use of clips from past episodes. The reason for this is that they did not have time to do a all new episode and get it on in the time alotted. When UFO was being done it was the first series the Anderson had done using actors rather than puppets so I'm sure they hit some hang ups they did not expect and used this as a way to stay on schedule. This does sound reasonable, especially as it's a very early episode.

Or maybe, they're not really "Straker's custom car" or "Foster's custom car", or "SHADO custom cars", but merely projected mass production models of the car companies of the future....??!!? ....Like a future Ford Mustang, or Camaro, or Impala....?? Maybe Roper just happened to buy the same make and model of car as Straker had....? Dave H. |

Maybe they (SHADO) use a pool car system as with many companies

Griff <[hidden email]> wrote: Maybe they (SHADO) use a pool car system as with many companies Best, Griff I bet they do. All government agencies buy in bulk and SHADO would be no diffrent. Besides, it would be easier tomodify several dozen cars (Armor, electronics and what have you) at once rather then peicemeal as they were needed. Properly edited this time. I wasn't singling anyone out -- like I said, this applies to MOST of the people posting at this point. I suppose it doesn't help that even YahooGroups gets increasingly annoying, with it's longer footers at the bottom of the messages, and the advertising on the website getting more intrusive (even when I'm approving messages, it throws a few ads in my face!) I'd suggest moving the group somewhere else, but it seems like YahooGroups has a monopoly on discussion groups at this point, and moving SHADO anywhere else would probably be a step down from what we have now. Well, I could host the mailing list. I don't have a web-based archive
(my archives are accessible via email currently), but I'm working on that. I could also setup an affiliated website. None of my stuff is ad supported - only supported via donations. why dont we do a UFO chat room whenever some of us are online. we can each
have a friend on stand bye. when a friend shows up ask them if they want to chat. if yes then open a chat. if you see anyone else invite them too. use the buddy lists or membership icons to see if they are online. scott [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |
