I was out today with a junior staff member when his company phone rang...playing the UFO theme!. I was surprised, as that's my ringtone:). It transpires that my old handset that I thought was broken and handed in, was repaired and re-issued to him. He chose the UFO theme as it 'sounds funky'. Of course, being under 30, he hadn't a clue what UFO was:).

I have the same ring tone and it brings back good memories for lots of people who hear and quite often recognise it too!

I like it nasty. I use the sound of the flying saucer as my ringtone and portable computer loggon sounds. lol!!!
The portable computer logoff sound is the UFO passing by and away. §:c) Michel B. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] |

Cheers Marc,
Now have the opening theme tune as the ring tone and the UFO effect for messages! I picked it up on the web. Most likely after a Google search for a mp3 sound file.
It's not like I'm redistributing the thing, just talking about it! As I recall, just as I had finished doing these, I then acquired better source material (music + effects tracks for the episodes). And then of course the DVDs came out after that. So I should have redone these, and who knows, maybe someday I will? That UFO effect was taken from a reel-to-reel recording that was found in Barry Gray's garage after his death, so it may be better than anything heard in the series. And *I think* the rest of the effects were recorded from the Japanese language track of the Japanese UFO laserdiscs (which had far better quality than the English language track -- magnetic tape source instead of from the 35mm film). I tried:).Well, it's about this secret organisation battling aliens from underneath a film studio....etc. We were packing up to drive home, so I didn't get much chance. But I did mention he should google it:).
