Fw: [SHADO] Mike Trim artwork up for auction

Brian Serridge
Hello,

Forgive my ignorance, but I don't know a great deal about computers. Isn't it possible to print out the 4 sections of the picture onto individual white cards, then using a craft knife and ruler cut the pieces perfectly and join them together (with sticky tape on the back of the cards to hold them inplace). Then simply scan the complete image and store it on your hard drive.

We could hold a competition to see who can do the best "invisible mending."

All The Best,

BRIAN

I spent several hours looking at the source code back in 2006 (and
also yesterday) trying to find an EASY way to download the source
graphic in its original resolution. So far I've found nothing
(although if I knew the admin username and password, no problem!)

The best I could come up with was to send commands to their EREZ
file server, which limits what it produces to images 600 pixels
wide. I could then download 4 quadrants and patch together the
result. Kind of a pain, but it works -- some of the Derek Meddings
pre-production artwork on my UFO website were created this way
from the 2006 Bonhams auctions.

Here is an example (hey, those 2006 graphics are still there!)

You can stitch the images together just fine in software.... all of
the following were stitched together from previous auctions:

I like the skydiver one. I might just have a go at that myself! Stuck on Thunderbird 2 at the moment! (not for me I must add, for a daughter!)

Brian: There is not a lot of point printing and sticking stuff together. You must come out of 1970's "Blue Peter" mode and start thinking High tech. Get a Commodore 64. ;)

Marc:
Your "tedious" method is really the only way, which is precisely what I didusing screen grab software to specifically capture the areas. Please note that to do this, there are a lot more than 4 areas when fully zoomed in, and each image requires at least a 20% overlap.

I then autostitched the images, and tweaked and cleaned up the worst of themuck. (All Mike Trim's work was pinned up in the workshops, so model paint, glue and Lord-knows-what ended up on these when you look closely.)

I then used a special app to double up the resolution to 150DPI, so they are BIG! (you have been warned) - But this means they do have the quality to be printed out at a decent size to frame should you wish.

(For the tech-heads, I used a computer, and I'm a mere 49! - TechSmith SnagIt, Autodesk Stitcher 2010, Adobe Photoshop CS5, Photozoom 3)

All the UFO stuff is here:

http://www.robneal.co.uk/downloads

I won't be keeping them up forever as they take up a lot of server space, so anyone who cares to rehost them, be my guest.
If anyone wants any others, let me know.
(Marc: Where are the original Meddings lots?)

Enjoy,
Rob

One tedious way is to zoom in and grab a piece at a time, then use something like autostitch to sew it all back together.
Must be a more elegant way (some sort of flash ripper?) Time to have a lookat the page source code..

Wow, thanks! Saved me some effort... and added some resolution, as I
wouldn't have done more than 4 quadrants! I'll put smaller versions
(MUCH smaller) on my UFO website.

For the 2006 Derek Meddings auctions, you can get to these via the following
link (use the forwards/backwards arrows to see the others):

Oh, and now that I've downloaded all of these, I see that the file
marked "Seagull X-Ray" is actually a jet from Captain Scarlet.
I assume you did work on the Seagull X-Ray image, though?

In case this is helpful, I've found that the following type of link eliminates
the 600 pixel limitation:

http://images1.bonhams.com/erez4/fsi4/fsi.swf?FPXBase=http://images1.bonhams.com/erez4%2Ferez%3Fsrc%3D&FPXSrc=Images/live/2006-09/26/94282226-30-1.jpg.tif

I know there exists "flash capture" software, so theoretically one should
be able to use that to download the fully zoomed-in image, without needing
to stitch it all together.

Oops! Two passenger jets...
I will swap that one out. I have done the three UFO images from Derek Meddings along with Thunderbird 2 for LightCudder's daughter!
One image noticably absent from Mike Trim's collection is his concept for the Interceptor that Derek blew out. It would have been nice to have seen that full size.

All in the same place.

Cheers

Many thanks Rob, but unfortunately she wants me to draw it! and Virgil as well... which isn't too difficult. TB2 is a bit boring though. I wish she'ddecided on TB3 then I could have done it in space! I'm going to download the files you put up. Thanks again!

They look great! Thanks Rob (and Mike Trim)

As an aside, has anyone ever worked out if any of the Anderson
aircraft/space vehicles would actually fly?

Thanks for all those uploads... I think the DM UFO Shuttle might
be corrupted... at least, I've tried to download it twice and
gotten the same error message (although all the others worked
fine)

I've posted a couple of pics in a folder called Mike Trim - you can guestimate how large they actually are from this by the door handle in the 2nd pic.

Regards,
Barry

ps the DM UFO Shuttle I get a corruption message on as well...

I checked earlier and I think I've exceeded my FTP limit, so theres an incomplete file there. If you can spare a bit of space on your site to host these, I will delete the others.

Okay, I've temporarily put these here:

http://ufoseries.com/temp/bonhams

These are no longer zipped, as zipping wasn't saving much space over
the original TIF files. However, I've resaved them in PNG format,
which does save a lot of space.

However, in the end these will be much smaller JPG files (with
reduced resolution) on my UFO "Pre-Production" page, so if you want
these high resolution versions, download them now!

Heh, heh... well, right now you've got a "bandwidth exceeded"
error, so I guess we'll have to wait...

...it's always something with computers... you can't seem to
get anything accomplished without getting some sort of error
that needs to be resolved...
