You're right!! "Dragon's Domain" was very scary for television, and there are
elements of the film "Alien" in there as well - I'm sure many of you will have noticed this. I did spot a reel 2 reel machine in the int' of the craft in Dragon's Domain, (a more terrifing episode I always recall from childhood,) other than that the design was inspiring and real: I was really impressed by it. --- On Tue, 2/8/11, wmc <[hidden email]> wrote: From: wmc <[hidden email]> Subject: Re: [SHADO] SID INTERIOR To: [hidden email] Date: Tuesday, February 8, 2011, 8:17 PM Wasn't the SID interior re-used in Space:1999, for the inside of Voyager 2? My memory is telling me so but I'm just not sure. ________________________________ From: Alan Briscoe <[hidden email]> To: [hidden email] Sent: Tue, February 8, 2011 12:37:00 PM Subject: Re: [SHADO] SID INTERIOR I think the interior of SID looks excellent - "colourful emptiness" - and is a great example of the quality of design in the show. The spareness of the design makes it look very enigmatic and, as you say, much less dated than the computers in SHADO HQ. Ironically, SID's interior looks so much better than whirling reel-to-reel tapes at SHADO. I think it's because a lot of things nowadays are on Hard Drive and there's an ever decreasing need for 'moving parts' in technology. Elements of the "set" or "plot"?
If set I don't see how as Alien was filmed after Space 1999. If plot Alien was hardly original and was sued successfully by A.E.Van Vogt for its similarity to Voyage of the Space Beagle.
