Fw: SPOOKY MOMENTS

Ed Top
I forgot to mention another spooky favourite of mine. It's in "Destruction" when
Stephanie Beacham flicks the switch on the telescope and that poor Interceptor
pilot has a seizure. The look on his face combined with the visual & sound
effects is quite disturbing. I can't remember the actor's name - wasn't he in
"The Krays"? And yes, Barry's music is outstanding in all episodes, particularly
"The Psychobombs."!

Yes, I recall the creepy moments in all too detail; you remaked on two of my
favourite episodes and my all time favourite episode (Psychobombs) Barry has so
much input and influence in all the episodes but here it is emphasized greatly.
I think also the last episode The Long Sleep is eery and lends itself to tension
and suspense carrying a deep pity and remorse within the narrative.

I always think the scene in Sound Of Silence when the hippy is stabbed from behind and the blood trickles from his mouth was pretty shocking. Must have shocked me as an 8 yr old lad when I first saw it anyhow!

Re: Fw: SPOOKY MOMENTS

James Killian
Well the doctor was played by Vladek Sheybal who was in real life a very nice
man having heard from him and he was quite charming.  And he did a lot of work
in other things with most of the UFO cast.

However not to get off subject of creepy moments, I would have to go for the
one in The Cat With Ten Lives where Ayshea is carrying it around in SHADO
control.  Now that's creepy!

Re: Fw: SPOOKY MOMENTS

pyschobomb
There are so many. Cat with Ten is a very darkly episode, pulled off expertly by
Alexis Kanner.
I have to say, I will go back to the beginning of the series and my life. One of
my earliest memories of watching UFO as a broadcast must have been around 1970;
I would have around two years of age. I have a profound memory of the scene
where the ceramic protection cup is removed from the aliens's eye; it was not
the clip in the opening credits, I am sure.

I can still feel the effect this had on me. I would have been looking at the
good old ATV network back then.  I carried the image with me up to when I
accidently came across the series being televised on Granada in 1986  / 87. I
had to watch it on my tiny b/w tv in the caravan with about 90% screen clarity.
It was on much later at night later on in the year for some reason. Seeing the
series for the first time blew me away.

I always liked Vladek Sheybal.  I believe he was Polish. He came over to Britain
and couldn't speak a word of English at first - how scary would that be? Vladek
did alright for himself though, didn't he?

Fw: [SHADO] Fw: SPOOKY MOMENTS

I've just thought of another spooky moment. It's in "Mindbender" I think, when
the UFO is whizzing across the moon very close to the surface - the sound always
gave me the creeps!

That has always bothered me. How the heck does a cat get into a top security
installation 100ft below ground with only one entrance without being noticed?
Don't think it had voice print id somehow.

RE: : SPOOKY MOMENTS

Branko

There were horrors beyond spookiness: I remember being petrified when Lt. Barry got stuck in a torpedo tube in "Sub-smash". I remember the feeling to this day...

All the best,
Branko
