Subject: Re: UFO DVD in US Part 2

This is first time I have chimed in such a ng. But I have had a soft
spot for UFO, being that it was part of my growing up therefore I
could'nt resist having my 'hapth. I would just like to pass comment
on the Carlton UFO DVD's, particulary as part of the union, to speak.

I carry out consultancy work for Sanctuary records as researcher and
liner note writer. Sanctuary could be considered the aural equivelant
of Carlton. As such I have just finished working on the Kinks
re-issue programme check out the Kinks at the Beeb CD and the soon to
be released Dave Davies Lost Album CD. I digress, I believe Carlton
have done a outstanding job all around on the UFO DVD package.

It's very easy to get hung up about bonus track or in the case of
DVD's extras in my opinion retaining integrity of the orginal
programme/LP must be paramount and it is easy for the extras/bonus
tracks to over-shadow the original. There was a verciforous contigent
in the Kinks fandom that made great waves about the what they
percieved about the lack of bonus tracks on some of the CD's despite
all CD's having least half a dozen and in some instances a near
albums worth. Despite,in some instances the music being demanded not
actually existing !! I don't know what was, or was not available to
the compilers of the UFO DVD's but they have done a mighty fine job.
The picture quality is beyond reproach. The packaging is superb, the
extras compliment with over-awing the original programmes.

Believe me the digipak option was not the cheap option. If Carlton
were looking for a cheap cut and paste option they would definatley
NOT gone down the digipak route. I loved the nod to Japanese laser
disks in packaging, that showed a real feel and attention detail. The
whole "thing" is quality product, you are lucky people believe me.
The only MINOR quible I would have, it would have been nice to have
the original production and broadcast dates in the booklet. I'm hung
up about that as in the Kinks stuff as we tried to move heaven and
earth to get that sort of info in the liner notes. But becausing of
frazzled memories of aging rock 'n rollers we still failed in some
instances.

I also understand all the UFO box sets should have the postcards. I
got mine from another source and my box had the cards and booklet.

Cheers

Ahh, but if they printed the original production dates, it would
have shown that Gerry Anderson's commentary was incorrect when
he stated that production had to be shut down for 6 weeks... :-)
