Hello to the group...

rogerharkavy
...I've re-discovered this show recently thanks to the Family Room HD broadcasts. Had a special treat last night when they showed
"Identified," one I hadn't seen before.

Does anyone know if they're planning BluRay DVD releases of the show?
It looks gorgeous in HD format.

Nothing has been announced so far. In the UK, Thunderbirds has
been released on Blu-Ray, but the cropping has proved to be
controversial, and many folks who would have otherwise
purchased the set did not. I suspect we will find the same
situation with UFO, although I agree that it does look good
in HDTV (except for a few grainy effects shots, and a few
shots where the cropping doesn't work well)

I hadn't heard that it had been released on BluRay - haven't
seen any advertising or promotion for that.

To be honest the notion of wanting to watch puppets, models and
model sets in high definition strikes me as slightly bizarre!
It's not as if there's a lot of 'realism' to enhance in
Thunderbirds.

Ahhh, but once you have a high definition TV set, I think you
tend to want to watch high definition sources on it!

And in the case of Thunderbirds, the DVDs looked pretty bad,
as they didn't have the elaborate remasterings that the later
series did. So the Blu-Ray releases feature the first
really high quality image transfer.

With UFO, you have a different situation, as the DVDs already
look great. So with the HDTV versions, you have to weigh
the advantages of the increased resolution vs. the disadvantages
of having it cropped on the top and bottom (unless you prefer
having your screen filled)
