Hertfordshire Memorials

I have to admit an inappropriate smile and a curiosity about a particular road quite close (about 8km) to SHADO HQ. The road came well after UFO, so not much chance of an influence on the script writers. The road I'm referring to is Lieutenant Ellis Way in Cheshunt.

But in my head, there's only one Lieutenant Ellis.

Ha! I only decided to post this because Lieutenant Ellis Way is mentioned in the Hertfordshire Draft Speed Management Strategy Document…

I was tempted to say I think you should scribble out the name 'Way' on the road sign so that it would definitively refer to our most beloved UFO character :). However after reading the tragic story of Lt Way and his brave crew in your I think it would be an act of sheer malice & vandalism :(

But yes I agree the road would always remind UFO fans of their favourite (but tragically under-used) character of Lt Ellis.

Yes TRT that duel carriageway always used to give me a thrill from my schoolboy days when I was an avid fan of UFO but most notably Lt G Ellis. I lived in Goff's Oak for 10-years until 2015, and even my misses used to have a snigger at the name from time to time, knowing I had been a fan of both the series but mainly of course Lt Ellis.
As I have mentioned here previously - if I recall - I met Gabby Drake once when delivering telegrams as a young messenger boy around 1972/3, and I think she saw I was a tad spellbound on seeing and recognising her - even though she didn't of course have lilac or mauve hair. She had a lovely broad smile I can tell you - and chuckled as I didn't quite want to let go of the telegram as I handed it to her.
At the time she was residing off the Kensington Church Street in London, in quite a nice area, not far from Hyde park.
