Yes, I remember that... I had to record it on parents VCR. I remember The Sound Of Silence being on. Was not on British terrestial telly until Autumn 1996 on a Mon or Tues on BBC 2 (I think). I bought a special video and taped all of them on long play with every episode noted and when broadcasted... great days..

There are newspaper archives and some of these can be accessed online by members of many UK libraries but they don't generally give episode titles for repeats unlike the TV Times. However those archives would still be useful to check which channels were showing UFO and on what dates and time slots and that is something I intend to check at some point. For example I spotted a repeat of UFO on 11th March 1977 just browsing through one of the archives. I think the deal at the time in the UK was that each channel was allowed to repeat the show twice. The repeats seemed to stop in 1977 before the show was returned in most (maybe all) UK regions from 1986 onwards. I always wished to see the show again but I remember thinking it would never be repeated after 1980 because of the date in the titles - thankfully I was wrong!

I remember the 2pm showings on Sundays in the long hot summer of 1976 were my introduction to UFO.

It was very frustrating at the time as lunch would always be between 1 and 2pm so I had some real negotiating to do to get away from the dinner table to watch the opening credits with that brilliant music!

Which ITV region did you live in back then?

UFO was repeated in 1978 in New Zealand. It was on Fridays at 5 pm. I was in a three hour exam that had started at 2 pm. I left early. I passed the exam with 51%.

Re: UFO repeat dates

As far as I know, the series has never been rebroadcast in Canada since its first airing in 1970-1971.

I did see the patched-together TV movie in about 1981.

About 15 years ago, whent the Space sf channel started up, I emailed them to ask them if they planned to air UFO. I got a polite but perfunctory reply that said it was not a priority for them to acquire the series.

Ever since the series came out on DVD, I can thumb my nose at the closed-minded broadcasters here, because I can watch the show whenever I want!

Wow, that's pretty bad!

I know that in Seattle Washington USA, the local ABC affiliate
showed it in 1972-3, then it switched to a local independent
channel until about 1978?  Then INVASION:UFO was
occasionally shown in the early 1980s.  Then the "Sci-Fi
Channel" showed UFO nationwide in the mid 1990s.  Then "Family
Room HD" (satellite) showed it nationwide (in HDTV!) for a few years
starting in 2006.

Re: UFO repeat dates

Could be worse : )

In former Yugoslavia, only seventeen episodes were  supposed to be broadcast in 1974-75, without any rebroadcasts at all, except for "Destruction" being shown second time instead of "The Dalotek Affair", thus making only 16 episodes shown. Series ended with "Sub-Smash", then a very scary episode for me (the last words still ringing in my head: Pušenje je zabranjeno, posjeta je završena - I'm affraid the visitors would have to leave now, I'm sorry sir, no smoking - but it happenet those weren't the las words at all), with "Long Sleep" being shown around the middle of the series and "The Question of priority" shown third, after "Identified" and "Exposed"... In the last few weeks, Space: 1999 was broadcast (by RTV Zagreb) on fridays around 9 PM, and UFO (by TV Sarajevo) continuing as usual on Saturdays around 2 PM... Those were the times!

All the best,
Branko

Dear All,

Many thanks to all who took the time to respond to my request for information about transmission dates, and for putting me right on transmission times, this has opened a vast raft of memories for me.  Pity that I have missed the conventions but if anyone hears of any do please post details. I haven't had any luck with getting signed photos either but once again if anyone does come across any of the surviving cast, please let me know.

Kind regards to all.

Gordon Shaw

Most of the episodes were repeated in the early months of 1974 on Sunday mornings before switching to repeats late on Thursday nights in the summer of 1974 to complete the run. I couldn't find episode titles for two weeks but these were probably when Exposed and Ordeal were broadcast. I would presume Exposed was repeated second on 13th January with Ordeal probably on 7th April. Probably the only way of properly identifying these episodes would be to check an Anglia TV Times for those weeks or a local newspaper as national papers normally only list "UFO" when the episode was a repeat. Interestingly the late night repeats were almost all second block episodes which generally had more adult themes.

Although I did see the show on its first broadcast I was too young to have any proper memory of it. I do remember seeing repeats on Sunday afternoons in the Granada area around 1976 - for some reason my abiding memory is of the closing titles, not any details from the stories or even the opening titles and music. I know I really enjoyed the show but the closing titles made the really big impression and I still find them very powerful today.
