How big is a Mobile?

anthonyappleyard <MCLSSAA2@fs2.mt.umist.ac.uk>
In the course of woprking on Don Showalter's mehs models, again the
question has arisen: how big are they? The usual Poser scale is 1
unit = 100 inches, and:-
- Interceptor: I must scale the model up by *1.3 to fit a man in the
cockpit, after I found room in the craft's nose to fit his legs in.
Length = 25 feet 10 inches (ignoring the missile and the front skid).
How does that compare with real jet fighters?
- Mobile: after making as large a pit as I can in the cab floor each
side to fit the driver's hips and legs in, I must scale the model up
by at least 1/0.7 = 1.426 to fit a man in each side of its cab, and
then it is a squeeze. That makes the Mobile 12 feet wide, 10 feet 2
inches high (ignoring the aerial and the exhaust pipe), 25 feet 2
inches long. That would need a BIG!! box-trailer-truck to carry it to
site in without everybody seeing it, and the aliens load up and get
away while the Mobile-carrier is held up in a jam where someone is
digging the road up, and it is too big for country lanes, and unlike
a car it can't squeeze to one size to let a tractor or a herd of cows
past. The Mobile looks as if it can go cross-country - but SHADO
would need a large army of amnesia drug dosers to handle all the
people that get stroppy about the resulting damage to crops and
fences and hedges, "why the hell weren't we told about this
unscheduled military exercise, crash straight through half-grown
barley and next door's rams in my ewes through that &%$£ great hole
it made and I didn't want lambs born in July and whoever "SHADO" is
whose name's on that #@% great tracked thing's side can #@% well pay
for the damage." and so on, and he tells the whole area about it in
the village pub before SHADO's amnesia drug men get there, and so on.
